Is this some sort of planchet defect or is it PMD?

Just got the results back for my latest batch of silliness - having marginal coins I bought in the 80s graded for fun and to test my grading skills. Looking at the trueviews I noticed some cracks at the top of the Indian's head on this five cent piece that I hadn't noticed when I sent it in. They do not look like die cracks, so I'm wondering if this is some kind of retained planchet delamination, or if its just PMD that wasn't bad enough to get the details grade. It was straight graded at VF-30.

Runs vertically down from about 12 o’clock

poor alloy mix, typical on early Buffs. this creates the cracks you see and then are listed as defective planchet.

Interesting as I have almost the same on 1923-S Peace. No VAM seems to match.

VAMs are varieties not errors - there will not be a match for an error as they are a singularity.

Thanks for the replies - I thought this might have been the case but wasn't sure as this is the first coin I've ever owned with something like this going on. In terms of value is this a non-issue, or a net negative?
