    A number of the coins you’ve posted have at least somewhat of an unoriginal appearance. I’m wondering if you prefer coins with little or no patina, and/or if your options have been limited to such coins, based on the prices you’re willing to pay.

    I see a straight grade- likely 53 with a shot at 55.

    This was once a terrific coin before someone made an ill-advised decision to enhance it. Sadly this has been the norm for decades.

    all of the above:

    1. some coins I acquired when I was a novice collector before online sites & I bought based mostly on price,
    2. then when online sites were readily available, I bought coins based on eye appeal & recommendations from seasoned collectors & national known dealers,
    3. a few major dealers have failed me on raw coins which turned out cleaned or cleaning when they slabbed by PCGS.
    4. now I buy nothing but slabbed keys & semi-keys date coins AU50 & up.

    I actually like the coin, lot tougher to find that nice than people give credit

    In the photo of the coin with the full slab showing it does not look cleaned. This just goes to show how difficult it is to grade from online photos. Now it actually looks like a decent coin.

    On first glance attractive but don’t like the 2 fairly noticeable black spots on obverse especially at that kind of money $3450 / CAC CPG for AU53 -Pass. My investor clients (very experienced, seasoned) prefer non spotted material with relatively clean surfaces at this grade / price range. I do find the reverse quite attractive. I am curious what caused the spots on obv - biological attack or reaction to the atmosphere at some point.
