When I was born my mother got me a baby penny. For mine it was a weird silver one. She hung on to it until i was old enough not to just sell it, I nearly forgotten about it.

Google says its worth a lot, I'm curious if it really is.

The coin is plated. The plating is peeling between the O and N in ONE. Only worth sentimental value.

If it were aluminum it would weigh considerably less than a copper cent. Weigh it.

Aluminum will not stick to a magnet. It needs to be weighed.

Look at the bright side. It's melt value is greater than its face value.

True I was just starting with the

The chrome shop years ago used to test the plating process with pennies.
A dip in copper, then nickel and then chrome before the real work started.
It looked a little bit too shiny for mercury coated.

    Probably nickel plated then.

According to traditional folklore, crossing the palm of a new born baby with silver or offering them a silver penny is a way of wishing them a wealthy and healthy life.

The coin may not have value, but the act from my mom does. I lost her a while ago, I wouldn't have ever known the reasoning behind it. Thank you

It was pretty cool, I found a lot of old coins I collected when I was a kid. Mostly it was change someone gave me, a penny from the 1800s, some weird dull silver dollar coin, weird dimes etc. I only collected them at the time because they were different. It was a fun visit to find them and remember how I came across them.

I always wondered if anybody actually collected an album of plated Lincoln Cents?
