What is happening with 1989 Upper Deck factory sets
For some reason the 89 Upper Deck factory sealed sets are selling for as high as $175 to $200 now on eBay. Just a week or so ago they were $100 to $120 or so. I had one that I had been planning to sell but hadn't gotten around to it yet. When I saw what they are going for now I listed it yesterday for $199.99 BIN or best offer. I set the listing to automatically accept anything over $175. Within a couple hours it sold for $180. There are still some that are selling for less but not a lot.

Well that's the nature of anything factory sealed...it's the one thing that you can count on to gradually decrease in supply.

I believe there were at least 2 ways they were sealed. Shrink wrap and the other a gold seal label at the halfway point of the box. Some dealers back then would shrink wrap on there own. Anyone recall another way the set was sealed? I had a set in the early 90's that still had a department store price label sticker on the outer shrink wrap, which is why I think UD did shrink wrap some sets.
The ones sold at retail stores like Toys R Us were shrink wrapped without the seal. The ones intended for card shops had the clear circular seal and no wrap. That was it.

That's what I remembered. Just wanted to be sure. It was a long time ago. Thanks for the reminder.
I bought a '89 UD set back in '90 or '91 for $20 from a dealer at a small show. It was shrink wrapped, and I noticed it wasn't wrapped that well. I later found out that dealers were wrapping them themselves. Since learning that, I wasn't very confident the Griffey was even in there, so I sold it to some other dealer for $40.
As for the increase in '89 UD prices lately, I'm finding an uptick in prices pretty much across the board right now.
For most everything on my watchlist anyway.
Where's @Chaz at on this?
