West Point time capsule mystery takes a twist: There was something in there after all

Pretty cool article. It appears the capsule held some old dirty coins!😉

No W quarters though.😂🤣

Six old coins, dating from 1795 to 1828, found at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, when a time capsule was opened August 28, 2023

After sifting the dirt, West Point experts found an 1800 Liberty dollar, an 1828 50-cent piece, an 1818 quarter, an 1827 dime, a 1795 nickel, and a 1827 penny, and an Erie Canal commemorative medal.

    Apparently a 1795 half dime as well as several coins from 1828, the date they were sealed inside. Odd that seems to be all. I wonder if the silting destroyed other materials that were originally in the box?

    Maybe they were all coin collectors and thought it would be cool to leave the coins for future generations 😉😂🤣

    It was Vault Box #0. Quite a long delay before they released VB 1. I don't think I can wait that long for VB 4.

    I think a scrub brush will take care of that silt.

    No such thing as a 1795 nickel. Nickel wasn't used in U.S. coinage until 61 years later.

    Depends on whether they had to buy the statue with the box.
