Back to the “Box of 20” concept… sorta

My collection was growing again- and outgrowing my safe deposit box- so this weekend I made the decision to purge about 1/3 of it and go back to a fixed-size collection, under “Box of 20” rules. (One has to go out if I want to bring a new coin in).

Except it’s a “Box of 100” in this case. By keeping the collection to a fixed total of 100 coins, it’ll be more manageable and easier to organize.

But also more challenging to cope with the decisions of what I have to drop each time I want to add one. That takes some detachment and discipline, and ain’t always easy. Still, it’s a healthy way to focus on quality over quantity.

I now call my collection “The Eclectic Hundred”.

    Wow you’ve been busy.

    “sorta” lol … as in Box of 20 X 5 ….I’m a fan of a lot of them … the ‘71 Seated $ in F12 has a super look to it.

    Sold it a few years ago when I sold the first holey collection.

    I've always liked the concept but I'm a set collector at heart. My seated quarter set is a box of 112. If I were doing an actual box of 20, I'd find a set of 20 (or so) coins and do that. Maybe like Carson City half eagles (19 coins) or something similar.

    I can still pursue a small set as a subset of the collection. Like, say, the Roman Twelve Caesars. Counting new purchases on the way, I’ve got six of the twelve emperors.
