    Grandam - The circumstances surrounding Miles’ passing appear to remain unverified at the moment. But, I believe (and anyone with information to the contrary, please correct me if I am wrong) there is an investigation underway in Texas surrounding his death. I believe he was just 58 years old at the time of his death.

    Grandam, I don't think it is wrong to ask. But, for myself I don't care, Miles was a credit to our hobby and had an positive impact on a lot peoples lives. I'm not sure if cause of death is public information or if it is left up to the family to disclose, if it is up to the family I think it best we allow his wife to decide when, what and to whom she is comfortable disclosing. This is a nice tribute thread and I would hate to see it turn into speculation on a topic that has no relevance to Miles contribution to our hobby.

    I stumbled across this website and did a search and sadly, this came up. The website claims that all submissions are checked and verified before posting, so.....it's a very sad deal provided this is true. He absolutely had the world in the palm of his hands! RIP pal!

    Miles was a dear friend of mine, and I know he was a great friend to so many of us on this board. He was the type of person that would do anything for his friends, and cared more about others than he did himself. He was a giant in the numismatic industry and was anxious to share his talents with others. You are truly Outstandish my friend, I miss you so much.

    I recommend Miles Standish's memorial service it was very good.

    There was a lot of speculation because the cause of death was not immediately stated. However, the family was not trying to keep it secret, they just wanted to disclose it when they were ready. As they talked about at the memorial service Miles struggled with depression, but fought it hard. He sought help and was on medications, but ultimately he succumbed to it.

    I am really glad they were open about it because there really is no shame in it. Just like they said at the service it is a disease like any other.

    I unfortunately missed this thread when it was first posted. He was a true asset to the hobby and will be missed. RIP Mr. Standish.

    I hope the ANA as well as other numismatic entities who benefitted so much by his labor of love will be creative with commemorations.
