Strange 1964 Jefferson Nickel with Ridges?

New to the forum, Hello all, amateur coin enthusiast came across this strange nickel with ridges, and even more bizarre it's a 1964 Jefferson nickel no mint mark in pretty good condition. I can not find any info regarding nickels with ridges. Guessing its done post mint but why? and so precise?

    Welcome to the forum! :)

One of the first things you will want to do is weigh it.
Please report back the weight of the coin.

To have the reeding ( ridges) they would have to be on the collar die and as far as I know, there
is no 5 cent collar die with reeding. It would have been added after the coin left the mint.
How it was done doesn’t really matter as it is now classed as PMD.

But it's still a very interesting coin that would generate some interest on ebay.

thanks for the feedback, took it to some local dealers, who also thought it was unique, but were more precious metal dealers. I have been doing some research and cannot find anything like it. The only instance I can find of someone adding ridges post mint, was in 1938 on a Buffalo Nickel by Ira Reed for a promotion.
