Rare Mexican medal ?

Does anybody know this medal? It seems to be grove-1027, but I don't have the book to look it up.
Massive 98 gram weight. I don't see any auction records..... (other than this specific coin)

    If you are looking for a value, Mexican gold medals usually trade for a slight percentage over melt, depending on how greedy the seller wants to be. At auction, they will probably hammer at almost melt and you have to pay the 20% BP on top of that. When pricing these, I always figure 0.900 fine since most aren't marked. You will need to weigh it though.

    Mintages of 1950-1970s pieces were generally a few hundred in gold, but most were probably mishandled then melted during the big run ups in gold. So they are probably pretty rare, but almost no one cares since few people collect them.

    There are a few popular designs that command higher premiums, but this is not one. I don't think this is a product of CMM either. (Some CMM medals do not have the Mo mintmark.)

    Is it actually gold or something else? Is it marked on the edge? It may be big and heavy but is an artistic disappointment. I know nothing about it but don't find it to be something I would ever consider buying.

    Looks like it's in an NGC holder.

    Yes, it's NGC graded, can't see the edge. It's 98 grams of gold.

    Does anybody have the Grove book to look it up ?

    My copy of Grove only lists a 1027a, in silver (46mm).

    As books on Mexican numismatics go, it’s actually one of the easier ones to get.

    While it seems to be the hardest of the three book set to find, if you're persistent, you can find one for $50-$75 now and again. More typically, they seem to run around $150.
