Anybody have any chopped U.S. gold to show?

I was a little short on this one this but someone bought this beauty a couple of weeks ago.

is it just me, or is it quite odd the coin sold raw?

edited to add: i see other items now, looks like it may have been a whole auction or section of raw counter-stamped/chopped coins. interesting.

Why would you even question a coin like this being sold raw?

@OriginalDan I have reviewed an interesting article on the 1859-S Dollars that was submitted for publication, and hopefully will appear in the near future. I hope that it will answer your questions about what happened with the issue.

Looking forward to it. Which publication, if you don't mind?

not used to seeing raw coins in heritage auctions. must make exceptions for specialty items?

edited to add: it has been my experience that heritage has some rather "firm" consignment restrictions, which is why i've never consigned for sale there. love buying though.
