I have an 1857-S shipwreck Type 1 $20, and it won’t populate into the Type 1 $20 slot in any of my registry sets. I emailed the registry folks and received no reply. Am I missing something obvious here? I don’t get it.

You probably need to call Set Registry.
I had that issue, too. Use this and it will be fixed same day.
