    i really don't like the eagle neck feather(s) going into the neck-wing wide gap.

    I vote fake.

    The mintmark and lettering in general is not something that would be like that on a genuine piece. They letters are not sharply defined and are misshapen in places.

    The grainy texture on Liberty's hairline and the wreath is a common counterfeit trait.

    Just look at the font on the date.

    All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.

    Fake. The design elements, numbers, and letters are mushy looking and not at all sharp and distinct. Also, it doesn't have normal mint luster and texture.

    I don't like the mint mark and the luster looks "greasy" to me.

    Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

    There are two mintmark styles for 1903-S, and this coin has neither. Counterfeit.

    Counterfeit/Fake... the font on the date/MM is not right, stars look mushy, font on the reverse looks off, there's some chatter in between "We" and "Trust" on IGWT, and the eagle's talons on the branch look off as well. Overall, a pretty cr@ppy attempt...

    I was curious because the OP did not state anything about it being for sale, owning it, a friends coin or other. Maybe it was simply a coin from an old photo and as you state wanted information on it. I don't know and I was again asking the OP.

    For one it doesn't seem to have the correct level of wear. There are areas more worn they they should be and in others less then they should. The rim and neck look off to me right away and I didn't even get a chance to compare it to other photos or coins yet which I will.

    Will ad an edit if I think differently afterwards.

    Thanks for the reply. Since I was not clear on the specifics of the coin, I thought that maybe you were seeking some other information. But now that I know you are not there is no need to go into it. Didn't want to divert anything as often happens in threads.

    On this coin the reverse is a C4. lancenewmanocc mentioned the neck feather sticking out. That is okay on the previous reverses but not on a c4 as they got trimmed off so to say. The wing edge lines also changed. It is a little hard to see on this one but on the eagles left wing (viewers right) at the top going into the eagles top breast, it should be more open and deeper. One can see it if you compare an earlier version to a later c4. The stars are not struck well when compared to a normal Morgan and some are even incomplete. There seems to be many of these being produced where the lower hair is incomplete. Note the hair above the 3. That one clump is kind of detached from the rest. Hope I didn't double up anything.

    For my evaluation, the first indication of a fake, is the stars.... very poorly done. Many other points are listed above. Cheers, RickO
