Is it the plastic or the coin. 1928 D SLQ rattler brings big price at Great Collections!!!

1928 D MS 63 rattler brings $775 tonight at Great Collections while 1928 D MS 65 NGC brings only $405. What’s happening here. Any thoughts?

I’d guess that a significant portion of the premium is due to the (subjectively) pleasant toning on the PCGS coin.

I'd say both. The coin has some attractive toning to it.

108xxxx rattler prices have increased dramatically over the past year, even though this is not a 1.0 or 1.1. Whether this is because buyers mistakenly feel this is an elusive white label rattler or collectors just want an early cert number remains to be seen

Oh gosh, are we really collecting by slab serial numbers now? Is the next thing a slab-slabbing service?

It should be no surprise the beautiful toning will most always bring more money. Just ask people like me that seeks it out and collects it. It's never cheap.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

    .
the context in this thread isn't necessarily that anyone is looking for a specific number but that the 108 cert starting numbers delineate between the earlier highly sought-after 1st gens and the later less desirable ones with changes to the insert and/or slab. (the premiums for early slabs in the c19 era is record breaking like a lot of things) fwiw

feel free to keep mocking though. ;)

It's absolutely due to the 108 start of the certification number, though the insert is not the first generation insert.
