1978 Topps Baseball Vending Reveal

UFFDAHUFFDAH Posts: 2,786 ✭✭✭✭✭

I recently opened three 1978 Topps Baseball Vending boxes. I had bought these boxes once upon a time off EBAY and they were not BBCE wrapped. I think I mentioned in another post that I had two but it was actually three.

I ended up with some beautiful STAR cards (note there is some static dust present on the top loaders) plus approximately 400 commons in the four diamond corner storage boxes that are centered, sharp, glossy and pretty as peacock!!

The holdered cards and the 400 centered storage box commons are not for sale at the present time.

The off center commons and stars put back into the vending boxes I am interested in selling if there are any set builders out there....I just don't have a price figured as I have never opened three 1978 Vending boxes before 🙂

PS: The 78 Greg Minton is right up there with the 52 Mantle 🤣

    Niiiiice.

    How much for the Minton.?

I hope that Whitaker on the left is a 10.

Speaking of 78’s…I need Dan to chime in. And, where has CDNuts been?

Banned for quite some time now, and has moved his focus 100% away from sports cards.

Wow, you did much better than I did with the two vending boxes I opened about a year ago. 1978 Topps Baseball is one of the best-designed sets in all of Topps Baseball sets. It's very simple and allows the photo to take center stage not too mention that those white borders look amazing pack fresh.

I am definitely interested in filling in some gaps on a few of my 1978 sets. It's mostly commons and possibly a few semi/stars. I have to go through and see what needs upgrading. Let me know when you have an idea on price.

Wow... the print quality is outstanding on those. I am your guy if you ever want to part with one of those Molitors!

You've been on a ripping roll lately... and I love it! I've got a whole stash of packs to rip and I can't bring myself to do it 😪.

Thanks for the props. The agony of defeat happens alot when ripping/opening.

@baz518 - thanks man. I've been trying for sure and will do so as long as I can. Have some more in the works and will share. I sure love the thrill/adrenaline of it and tell myself you only live once which defeats the logic of status quo.

Nice cards. I forgot how many rookies were in the 1978 set

Gretzky,Ripken, and Sandberg collection. Still trying to complete 1975 Topps baseball set from when I was a kid.

Seeing that fresh, undisturbed pattern in a 44 yr old vending box is a beautiful thing!!!

Those Ryans are brutal!!! That's why they go for $2K in PSA 9..........

And yeah, the 78 Topps Greg Minton is definitely one of the most iconic cards ever.

I remember there was an article in BBC magazine about 78's I know that they talked a little on air-brushing cards, names on uniforms; such as the 78 Vida Blue.
    This might be the issue...

Thanks for posting the results. Haven't seen too much '78 unopened getting broken in recent years. If I ever get the urge to crack my '78 FASC rack box, I'll go back to this thread and get my fix. :)
