Busted a retail box of 02-03 UD basketball.....

Hey,

Bought one of those $20 retail Target boxes of UD basketball and pulled these:

Yao Ming RC
Dajuan Wagner RC
Michael Jordan Dunkvision #DV1

Anyone know what these book?

How do you figure that when 02-03 SPx Basketball is $115 box at Dave and Adams with 18 packs per box? At even $5 pack which is probably cheap....it seems like 10 packs would be $50. I only spent $20. Considering what I spent, I don't think I did bad pulling 2 of the top rookies with Ming selling for $10-12 alone on E-bay.

Also, having been in this hobby for over 20 years I can safely tell you that open hobby boxes at shows have almost always been searched over. If you know where the good cards are located and there is consistent placement, lots of other people know that also......

Retail packs suck. The companies don't put anything in them...why?? they know that most retail
is returned and they don't make any money on it. Heck that is why hobby cards are more now, to
cover for that. Even one pack of SPx would give you a better shot at something. I only buy packs
from boxes that have just been opened. That way I know what is in front of me.

lol shoulda gone to wal mart and bought a box of authentix, or stadium club (retail)
1:15 overall relics for stadium club and 1:36 for authentix, and i been lucky wit em, and there only 20 bucks, least i get a jersey instead of just crap, UD is lik,e 1:256 packs lol good luck

Man, why is everyone hatin? He got a Ming RC which will probably book for $15-$20.

He could have spent $60 on SPx packs and got a $10 jersey.

I agree with you that hobby packs are a better way to go and I almost always buy hobby boxes....but sometimes I just have the immediate urge and there are no shows going on:>}.

In terms of only buying from boxes that were just opened, what do you stand in front of the table for an hour or two waiting for them to open a new one? Most of the time you are not lucky enough to be the first person to pull packs from a box at a show. I don't see too many dealers opening a new box for you either just because you want a fresh box.

In terms of what you consider crap, it all depends on what you collect. I don't collect GU at all. I don't have any GU in my entire personal collection except for Andre Davis who I am trying to collect every card of. So to me, I would rather pull a couple of decent RC's than a $10-20 jersey card. If you collect GU, than I would agree that retail is not the way to go.....

i have pulled

an joe namath auto/jersey #erd /175 and bv 300
a steve francis auto bv 100
a wally hats off that booked 200 when i pulled it

these all came out of k-mart mixed retail boxes

so i guess you doput some nice stuff in retail after all
