I bought this PCGS graded Kennedy Half Dollar at the coin store today...

I'm interested in finding out for how long this style of holder was used by PCGS. I was surprised to see no number designation on the slab. Just "GEM BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED" for the grade. On the back of the slab it says ©2007 Professional Coin Grading Service. I really like this piece in it's handsome PCGS slab. It's a nice addition to my Kennedy Half Dollar collection.

    If I recall this one of those promotional styles that PCGS used for large marketing firms like HSN or such. That is why no grade

    Probably a mass market, promotional, or bullion dealer type offering with no actual grade like that.

    I have similar SEs.

    Here's another slab style used by PCGS that I'm interested in finding out about. I know there's members here that know about slab generations. Another handsome PCGS slab housing one of my favorite pennies...

    The blue fade is the current 6.1 generation (non gold shield) used from 2020 - present.

    That's the trouble with old copper... even amazing beautiful coins are hard to see. Throw a spotlight on it, eh? :wink:

    Thanks. So the ones with the Gold Shield are still 6.1 generation slabs?

    Throw a spotlight on it, eh?

    My photo skills are poor, especially on pennies. This is a beautiful '12-D penny. I'll try for another shot.

    Character. I <3 this piece. No numbers were used to describe the grade. GEM BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED says it all.

    Bulk submissions probably had a minimum of grade of 67 or 68 to get the numerical grade. Marketers probably felt a coin grading "GEM BU" would sell better than one graded just 65 or even 66 for a coin as common as a post 64 kennedy half
