1961 Topps baseball - official PSA thread

I think it is time to have some fun with 1961 Topps baseball.....I have been spending more time working on this set recently. It is not as difficult a set as some others like 1962, but it is a classic and well loved by many collectors, including myself. I will start it off with a blazer........let's see what you have!

BTW, I have noticed that values/prices have really increased on cards in this set in recent months.....even commons.

Beautiful cards, are you still upgrading your ‘59 set? Or all systems go on this project?

  • marinermariner Posts: 2,580 ✭✭✭✭

    Thanks Bob!

Perkdog......I have done about all I can do on the 1959 Topps set, so I am dabbling in upgrades for 1960 through 1963 Topps, but I have had the most success in upgrading my 1961 Topps set. It is fun and I enjoy it.

That World Series card is really attractive. For some reason I don’t feel like I’ve seen those too often.

The one and only 1961 Topps Salesman Sample Panel that I have ever seen with Maris on the front with his stats on the back.

Why just a Authentic grade on that Salesman sample Panel ??? And would they
allow that Panel in any Player Sets ???

Robbie.....PSA always just puts the authentic grade on the panels. I don't know why, but that is what they do. They will not give it a number grade. That is a good question about player sets......I don't know the answer though.

That is incredible - not on the registry due to buying various holders but been working on a 1961 HOF set and am getting pretty close. You have some amazing ‘61s!! Thanks for the eye candy.

Wow Don, I missed it when you posted that sales sample. If they gave a condition grade, that looks like it would be an 8 or 9. Are they often found in such great condition? A lot of the ones I've seen over the years seem to have creases in them.

  • marinermariner Posts: 2,580 ✭✭✭✭

John, you are correct......this 61T Salesman Sample is really high grade if it were to get a number grade. I have seen many of these panels over the years (diff ones and diff years) and rarely are they really nice. They usually always have creases, soft corners, etc.

Have you all noticed how hot 1961 Topps cards have gotten? Some commons in PSA 9 have sold for 5 to 10 times more than they did back in 2020.

Nice Williams. The color really pops on that one.

To add to the thread here is my most recent pick-ups from the set. I am primarily PSA 8.5s or 9s and had been looking for the right Ruth for a while. He was the last I needed of the Baseball Thrills subset.

12 remaining on the HOF set.

  • marinermariner Posts: 2,580 ✭✭✭✭
