If you thought Mexican War for Independence coins were high-priced for the crude issue, check out this ancient that just sold at Heritage for $26,400! Reminds me of a Banksy.

    Well with the Mexican War for Independence coins one can generally make out what the coin is supposed to be, this one, not so much, unless of course your highly experienced in this particular field.

    What is the size of the ancient coin. I seem to recall that those were often very small coins. Is that a much larger one?

    Someone putting together a "History of Coinage" collection would want that ancient. That is the type of collection I wish I had started decades ago instead of bothering with US coins.

    It's a small coin, 9mm and 2.4 grams. I bid ~$16K all-in on it but wasn't close. As hilarious as it sounds, the "style" is superb.
