Using Ebay shipping labels?

jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 10,180 ✭✭✭✭✭

If you sell two coins to the same buyer, how can you use Ebay shipping label for both in one package? I have tried and it only lets me insure one at a time, not both. Am I missing a step to combine the shipping?

If you don’t see it in the drop down menu, use the bulk shipping option and it should allow it there

  • koynekwestkoynekwest Posts: 10,048 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't use ebay to print shipping labels.

If you are going to the USPS and shipping you are throwing money out the door. I think 1st class shipping is 25% less through ebay.

As for combining shipping another easy way to get there if you have enough sales is just to hoover over alerts and click ship from there...otherwise the bulk shipping link after you go to the shipping page.

    1. Click "Purchase shipping label" for one of the items.
    2. Upper right of screen, click "Print labels in bulk".
    3. Click the checkboxes for the items to be shipped together.
    4. Click combine button.
    5. Add insurance.

You can't even get the ebay standard label at the post office

Not sure if it pertains to the actual query but just wanted to chip in that my 16 year old does the shipping for me usually. Combined shipping option is used at the time of check out and then he takes the package to the post office where they scan the bar code from his phone and the clerk prints out the label.

Thanks to you and @MasonG . It's too late to try this time as I already went to P.O. and shipped it rather than tie up due to the long weekend. I regularly use ebay for shipping label and truly save roughly 22%. Great deal, wish I had discovered this practice years ago. I will definitely try it on the next multiple sale with the same buyer.

eBay has always combined coins to the same buyer for me... it should be visible when you send your invoices.

The buyer paid immediately upon purchase. So no invoice.

They have to be paid for at the same time. Most ebayers don't use the cart. The majority of ebayers have to pay immediately when they click buy it now. So if they don't use the cart they pay for them separately.

Ah ok- I only do auctions on eBay so that's probably the difference. I think they get aggregated when the auctions end.

If you buy insurance then it is cheaper to ship in USPS than eBay. With one K insurance priority smail box. USPS charged $25. eBay charge $26

I'd be really surprised. The only thing that is cheaper is if to go registered which you can't do through eBay. The eBay shipping rate is cheaper and the insurance rate is identical.

The other option is if you weren't looking at USPS insurance through eBay. Shipcover insurance is more expensive.

I sell my books on ebay and use media mail rates and save a hell of a lot more than 25% versus first class mail. I have not been able to find the media mail option any more with ebay generated labels. If you see that option please let me know where it is.

Unless something has changed, Ebay's insurance will not cover coins.

Shipcover? No. But that or registered is the only way that package is cheaper at the post office.

And, yes, the media mail is cheaper through eBay.

On my drop down menu their was no "combine" and never saw a bulk shipping button or selection anywhere. I use ebay labels every time, but could not find a way to combine these two coins. Perhaps my error, but I looked everywhere mentioned here and did not see it, so I shipped it at about $2 higher by going to P.O., but it was at least shipped early this morning.
Is there a chance I'm not a select enough seller to get these options? Hope I can use them next week if available. Thanks everyone for your help.

If you select both of the items and then hit print shipping labels, there is a little button at the top left that says "combine orders..." if you hit it, it aggregates orders from identical buyers. I do it all the time as buyers seem cart-challenged.

I sell quite a few books also and the 'media' option is always there.
One thing I'd like to do is print ONE invoice when multiples have been paid separately. Is there a way to do that ?

I had a customer pay for two items separately, so here's some screenshots on aggregating the shipping

They loaded in reverse order, but select the items. Click the shipping label button and then (top picture) there should be the combine orders button at the upper left of the bulk labels screen.

@jmlanzaf is correct, and was nice of him to include pics as well. One question I do not know the answer to is whether this option is available to non-store sellers. I would assume so, but I have a store so I can't verify.

I don't know anyone who has lost a first class ebay parcel in a long time. Insurance may be an option but it is a waste of money in many cases? Anything $1000-$2000 or above I would probably do overnight express and insure for less as usps insurance is crazy expensive. Use all the usps free packaging including the tyvek sleeves to fully package parcels. If you are doing enough business to justify it use Hugh Woods which costs a few hundred dollars a year for smaller sellers.

Sure, hope it helps. It's not obvious how to combine orders, eBay really should make it easier to do.

  • jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 10,180 ✭✭✭✭✭

As soon as a seller has two or more coins sold to the same buyer, it should ask you about combining the S/H. Then, they would lose fees charged on multiple shipping charges. So probably won't happen.

In the past, PayPal policy required that items paid for separately each have their own tracking and you couldn't combine them at all through eBay. I suspect that has a lot to do with why things are the way they are today.

Another conspiracy theory. And when you refund the shipping charge, eBay refunds the fees, so there goes that theory.

And if the buyer has already paid twice, eBay asking you about combining the S/H isn't changing anything about the payment. You already have the option (shown above by both myself and @MasongG in screenshots) to ask eBay to combine the shipments yourself. It's not exactly hidden. You can also simply copy and paste the tracking number to the second item.

The issue is buyer's inability to navigate the shopping cart. If the seller has set up combined shipping charges, eBay automatically does it when you use the cart or when the buyer requests an invoice. Some buyers are simply too ignorant or too lazy to do it.

No matter what eBay does, if the seller isn't set up to properly combine shipping, eBay isn't going to automatically do it. The other problem becomes timing. How long should that automatic combining stay open: 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days?

I'm not sure there's anything nefarious in letting the seller control the shipping charges and shipping manner. If the item is large enough, I might want/need to ship it separately. If the item is heavy, I may not combine shipping charges or shipping at all.

I love it when anyone wishes to deflect a conversation with the hated words, "Conspiracy Theory". What in the world does refund have to do with what I said? All I said is that ebay makes money off of S/H, do they not? If so, then why would they wish to make it easy to combine Shipping and lose the extra profit? That was my statement having absolutely nothing to do with refunds. :s

Ebay does make it easy to combine shipping. It's the buyer's who can't seem to use the cart function.

Even without the automatic combine, you can simply copy the tracking number to the second item. If you are charging two shipping fees and printing two labels, it's not because eBay is forcing you to do so.
