Would someone characterize the toning as negative/neutral? Just curious why a coin doctor hasn’t processed it in hopes of a bump to 68? Because it is easily recognizable?

You need to find the other, very lengthy, thread about this coin.

There’s no upside potential and lots of downside potential with such a easily recognized coin.

That coin is at 1.3+ million, and it gets the same standard photograph as everything else.
Worse....
The image on the GC website is the least life-like available.
The Truview is decent, but too darkish with that orange tinge
This image, from the coin's unsuccessful auction appearance at Legend, is very good. A third of a tone brighter nails it.
Teeny line on the cheek with an Eschenbach 5X. Not 67+

I don’t understood Great Collection’s image philosophy when it comes to selling truly spectacular coins, especially a 7 figure one. Treating this like a $100 Morgan makes absolutely no sense to me.
I’m waiting for the next copy of Super Mario 64 - Wata 9.8 A++ Sealed, N64 Nintendo (1996) to hit Heritage to try (of course no guarantees) to win it under the $1,500,000.00+ this last one just sold at. 😉

To each his own. That is what makes this a great hobby. I saw it at the ANA and I think it is ugly. For that kind of money I would rather have a very nice 1792 Half Disme, a very nice Chain Cent, a very nice Flowing Hair Dollar and I would still have a big basket of money left over.

Anyone have pictures of the other ms67 that was "fried" and then downgraded to ms65?
See the other thread (likely page 5) for discussion of overly-dark images and images of over-burnt....

I don’t know for sure but I like to think if I played in the deep end of the pool like that coin I could negotiate a flat fee or discounted rate for such transactions.
I suspect that the real bidders already know the coin or saw it at the ANA and the GC picture is irrelevant.
Besides, think of the registry points ......

Still it’s understandable—given the past substantial musings here about the ‘actual’ look of this coin compared to its various pics taken over the years—definitely seems to be one of those chameleons that needs to be seen in-hand to fully appreciate.

In a Great Collections auction it will all come down to the last 10 seconds. Whoever launches their nuclear bid will do it in the last 10 seconds. I am just sipping some Woodford Reserve and have some popcorn.

Thanks everyone, and I appreciate the feedback about the images too. We do take videos and send to bidders by request - and we did for this 1893-S. It was a particularly different coin to show in its true light.

I did buy the Woodford at Costco for about $54.00 for a 1.75. But I also like the Black Velvet Reserve at $16.00 for a 1.75 when business is slow. I do collect the Woodford Kentucky Derby bottles. But I can't drink those.

I was skeptical of your auction format for million dollar coins. But the bidding on the 93-S shows that your auction format works very well without an actual auctioneer. Do you think that Heritage and Stacks knows who you are now?
Great Collections has become my go to provider for proof Jefferson nickles lately.
Congratulations, Ian. Also to the consignor and the new owner. This result speaks well for GC's no-auctioneer format.
I hope CoinFacts at least tracks this event even if it doesn't do so for other GC auctions.
It is hard to fathom a condition rarity Morgan going for this (80 percent more than what the Cardinal Half Disme went for, as an example) but it suggests strength and depth of the Morgan market.

I've held the coin raw in-hand. It's not gorgeous, but it's lively and very pretty. "A-" eye-appeal.
Very big difference in how it looks for sure. Much nicer in the Legend images.
