Ode to the Simpson-Sunnywood Toned Morgan Collection

I am just in AWE of this set.
I whipped up this coinboard that covers the first seven years only -- but shazam on the color and eye appeal.
Just how much does the coin collecting community at large owe to these two numismatic giants?
I know that I for one have been inspired by them.
By the way, did anyone catch how I used Sunnywood's Color Progression Chart in the title?

Does Aurora have a Registry Set or website showing off his stuff?
I think I remember seeing a few of his toners posted a few years back.

Beautiful board. It would be great if you could add the coin names to the coin board, e.g. the Sirna Moose

Define 'cashing out'. Simpson's collection is in excess of 9 figures .... a few million here or there is pruning, not cashing out.
I'd love to see that 83-S or 84-S in hand too .. I, personally, love that subtle toning and that type of color on Morgans
Just amazing stuff

yes. The best of them
[This is the only Morgan set I would ever consider owning. I actually made an offer on the set but off to auction it goes.]
TDN or someone, where is lot viewing going to be held?

When I became intrigued with rainbow-toned Morgan dollars, nearly every knowledgable dealer told me that it would be impossible to assemble a complete set of Morgans with beautiful and/or original rainbow color. Laura herself said right off the bat that I was crazy, and that it could not be done. One important voice of support was, quite surprisingly, David Hall. There is a general belief that David prefers white coins, but that's actually not entirely the case. He does love beautiful, colorful. naturally toned coins. He just is very concerned about not letting artificially toned coins into the mix. When I asked David what he though about the idea of doing a complete set of beautifully (or even just originally) toned Morgans, his response was (to my complete surprise): "I would worship you." Other known Morgan dealers were against it. Jack Lee once told me that he hated toned Morgans "because I can't sell them." Another time he told me that he hated toned Morgans "because I can't buy them."
There was one dealer who was obsessed with rainbow-toned Morgans, and was wildly enthusiastic about the project. That was the late Mike DeFalco. I have to give a shout-out to Mike in the great beyond, for being a strong supporter of the hunt for rainbow monsters of different dates. Some of the great coins in the set were handled by Mike.
And then there were several collectors, and collector/dealers, who were also pursuing toned Morgan by dates, although in most cases not seriously expecting to complete the set; Jack Kelly, Jim Curtis, Dale Larsen; Bryan Sonnier. And a few more collectors who just love monster-toned coins, and had a few of the best, but were not trying to do a set ... Gregg Bingham, Ron Sirna, et al.
Putting together a great set often means getting to know the specialists in that area, be they dealers or fellow collectors, and that is part of the enjoyment as well.
No set is ever done though, and there are still a few coins that I would replace or upgrade if I still owned the whole set. I think it's fun that the coins will be auctioned off, and I hope you all get to buy a few. I myself might try to buy back one or two to put back in my collection. (I won't say which ones though !!!)
Almost no collector can keep everything forever. Rare are the families that can hold a great collection for multiple generations. In my case, the decision to sell was partly motivated by the reality of finite resources, and partly by the fact that for me, the greatest pleasure is in the hunt, and the quest for completion and perfection. For Simpson, I think everyone just has to realize how many thousands and thousands of coins he has. I heard that he has over 2000 patterns alone !!!! It is mindboggling. I can absolutely tell you, he loves these toned Morgans. Laura once told me they were right up there for him with his Indian $10 and his proof gold. But, having enjoyed them for years, he is simply making some room - literally.

<< <i>WL1957, thanks for linking AB's toned Indian Cent Registry set. I was referring however, to his set of MONSTER toned Morgan Dollars. If you conduct a search of his posts here, you may well find the collage he posted of a small portion of his toned Morgans that I now keep as desktop wallpaper. >>
Coindeuce, find the pages links just in the upper right side of the gallery, and look at pages 5-16. I think that will satisfy your interests!

Man, I love so many of those coins.
I was thinking about what happened to the Sunnywood/Simpson set and found this thread.
To me, this was the finest Morgan Dollar set ever assembled, if you combine technical quality with eye appeal. Despite being "#23" in the registry, I think it should get into the Hall of Fame for eye-appeal alone.
I did not follow the 2014 auction - did one or two bidders get most of these?
Bryan had a great life, tomorrow is never guaranteed.
