How do you feel when you see your silver coins get milky spots or toning?

I feel very frustrated when I see the modern coins I bought over the past ten years raw or slabbed are getting milky spots/toning, many are proof silver eagles.

It is why I stopped collecting them in 2014 and moved to Pre-33 Gold. I enjoy the design in proof but it was too frustrating to watch that occur.

I feel great when the spots show up.

Just kidding. Makes me not want to collect modern coins and especially takes away motivation to submit or purchase slabbed ones. Gives me another reason to focus on classic coins.

I have tried telling myself that at least I can tell which coins are mine. Did not work therefore if I must buy an ase certified I buy a 69 unless the 70 is very close in cost.

Aren't most ASE in the 69 to 70 grade unless they were mishandled? I just buy nice raw Unc examples for a little over spot. Cant really go wrong there. Buy em raw, keep em raw. If they get milk spots and you don't like em anymore sell for bullion to any dealer. No big losses that way. I have an 86 ASE I bought in 86 it is in a plastic flip and no milk spots or toning. It looks like the day I bought it.

I see stacks, not spots. No worries.

When a coin is all minted and slabbed within a month or so, you have to accept what time will do to it.

It's not fun but it is a reality based on how moderns are collected.

I don't buy modern NLCT because I do not want to experience that feeling.

There was/is a guy on Ebay who sold SEs that that he had antiqued.

They looked pretty cool and I assumed they were ones that originally had spots or other surfaces issues.

The threat of milk spots is why I sold all my sliver Eagles years ago and collected some platinum coins. This is the first year I bought silver Eagles from the mint. I will be selling most of the coins, keeping the ones I want to keep in their original packaging.

Only time will tell whether platinum is king.

Never had this happen to me, but once I saw it occurring to others, I have never purchased another and sold the ones I had without milk spots. I totally quit the mint for many of the reasons discussed here weekly in 2007. I had most every mint set and proof set up till then and still have many of the worthless ones. Maybe we need to have a contest and all of us give away our junk mint sets to young numismatists, especially forum members children interested in the hobby. I'll think about that.

I feel the need to head to walmart. Wrights silver cream works wonders on those nasty milk spots. Almost as bad as toned silver. Luckily the issue is easily resolved. THKS!

The same way I feel when I get a 69 instead of a 70 when I submit them
