cue the re-run:
--- new member arrives and makes first post, claims ignorance.
--- displays 6-7 figure coin.
--- receives quick, honest, yet curt reply.
--- chooses to not believe answer.
--- when offered further explanation, decides to become argumentative.
--- moves quickly to becoming rude and abusive.
--- leaves thread, probably never to be seen or heard from again.
I have seen this repeated 642 times since I joined, it's almost always the same. it is topped only by another event I witnessed approximately 177 times in addition to 94 phone calls: "I found a Copper 1943 Penny."
the in-person experience is priceless, generally including the disbelief followed by the rude name calling as they hit the door.
Sometimes folks by the replica's / counterfeits just to fill the hole in their albums. They know the coin is not real but that way at least they can have an example of a rare date. IIRC the old Whitman blue albums had a punch out for the 1913 with 'Rare' printed on it...they should have printed 'Impossible and if you have one you shouldn't be putting it in this folder!'
My thinking on this is that there are two groups at play here. The first are truly ignorant. These are the YouTube watching, Lincoln cent roll searching, looking for the next lottery ticket, noobs. They don't want information, they just come to CU to get somebody to say "looks good to me."
Then it's off to Ebay / Etsy to make their fortune.
The second group truly are scammers, and they're looking for exactly the same thing the first group is looking for.

I will look on the positive side of this thread, and propose we change the title to: Show me your 1913 Liberty Nickel!
