    My two candidates;

    The mighty Buffalo nickel. Unmistakably a U.S. coin.

    Next would be the Saint Gaudens $10 eagle. One of the most beautiful coins ever minted. No mistaking it from any other country.

    The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

    Perhaps that was tongue in cheek? LOL.
    I do like the Oregon Trail commem. if that can count. My favorite coin, or one of my favorites is the Dan Carr matte proof 1927 Oregon Trail. Will try to put a picture of it on here in a couple of hours...

    Is that a "US regular issue coin"? ;)

    There certainly was a brief period of beautiful US coin design in the early 20th century, 1907 to 1921. From an aesthetic perspective it was too bad the nation decided to put old men on coins instead.

    Call me crazy, but the Barber half has a great design on both obverse and reverse. Much better size than the quarter and dime to really get the details out.

    You're not crazy. It's a beautiful coin. It fits the time when it was minted.
