How long before you give up?
What is the general consensus on how long you would keep bumping a want to sell or want to buy post before abandoning it (if there is no luck buying or selling)?
Also has anyone experienced success after multiple days, weeks, or months of no luck? Or do you figure it’s not meant to be on this particular venue after a certain period of time?

Pricing is probably the factor if the time to a purchase/sale is taking too long. Especially if the item is generally available elsewhere.
I haven’t posted on the BST yet, but I also don’t check it every day. I’m glad some of them stay up awhile because if they’re not near the top when I’m in there, I wouldn’t ever see them.
I have sold a lot of Seated dollars here on the forum and they always sell fast (within a week or so). I did have some that did not sell in the first week and I adjusted my ask and then they sold. I think it depends on what your selling… maybe look into adjusting your price if it has not moved fast enough. If you think the price is fair then maybe you need to try a different venue with more eyes? Good luck
I know on Ebay I've had "Buy It Now"s go for over 6 months before they sold for what I wanted - It doesn't cost anything to keep it posted so why not???
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
I buy quite frequently on the BST. After awhile, you figure out who is selling what you are interested in buying, at a price that you are willing to pay. I have done repeat business with certain regular sellers on the BST. If I see somebody who has what I feel is high prices or excessive postage, I no longer even review what they are selling.
The BST venue is free so it's not like it's costing you anything but time. If you're selling a coin, make sure your price is realistic.

Be courteous to others trying to sell on the BST by not bumping more than once daily and by not having more than one post on the first page. Page 1 is prime real estate; share it.
Does being a fiancial whiz with dollars make one an expert with gold?
I don't waste my time trying to sell there, after 15 years. I find a fair buy every couple of years.

BST has turned into a mini discussion board. Buy, Sell, Trade, Unsolicited Opinions in order to bump threads and stay on page one.
Oooo that's a nice coin !!!

I tend to agree with this statement. I've tried to sell a few things there but generally find a much more receptive audience on ebay. I will post an item on BST, bump it a few times, lower the price, bump it a few more times and then let it sink into the abyss.
I have made several purchases and flipped a couple of US Mint items and for those activities, I find it very useful.

Never - Out get my price!
On eBay I list many items buy it now. This is my retail basic offense. These marked up cover eBay sell expense plus then some which varies. Some may sell right away some not. Tough to predict. One rare variety slabbed bullion coin picked up for $26 from non eBay auc house went for $750 (slightly discounted below its MV) on the bay but it took about 2.5 years. Sooner or later our offense will make the play happen.
Last month my auction sales (blowing some stuff out) realized we’re cost plus 7pct. eBay selling costs about 21 pct sales for items like store, shipx, taxes / govt fees, FVF. 7 pct - 21 pct = loss. My retail sales (are my biz lifeblood) makeup (higher markup realized vs auction) for this kind of loss.
At shows fighting table fixed cost plus any travel expense. I won’t sell items less than 10-20 pct markup over cost. Some I want more. If I can’t get my price then just take it home eat whatever loss from show then maybe it sell on eBay. Many times coins bought from wholesaler setup (before public comes in) retailed on the bay if not show. So if show coming up may blow out some auction items (not moved for sometime) have more buying cash for show (pickups from wholesalers). It’s like a smash mouth (offense) buy / sell strategy.
I wouldn’t waste too much time in one place. JMHO.

I’ve had pretty good luck overall selling on the BST, generally within a couple days of posting. I also keep in mind most members are pretty savvy; they don’t want problem coins, and they know what fair market values are. Unless you are offering something pretty special, you need to be competitive on your price. But this also leads to long term relationships. Most of my sales are directly to forum members via want lists and pm’s, and nothing is publicly posted.
For WTB, I struck out asking for tougher large cents in specific grades. I wasn’t real surprised either. If you’re looking for a unicorn or even something scarce, this is a limited audience. No harm in asking, put if you are seeking a scarce coin, and then need it in a certain holder, with a + and a sticker to boot, the odds of someone here having it and wanting to sell are pretty slim. But it could turn into a lead for you!
This is my current want to buy list which I think isn’t generic but also not a unicorn, right?
~Whipple Dollar (HK-832)...preferably NGC or PCGS graded
~Hawaii Quarter that is nicely toned or Prooflike (semi-pl is ok too; and it does not have to necessarily be denoted as PL on the holder)...preferably NGC or PCGS graded
~Toned Columbus (probably 1892 or 1893 half but if someone has a 1992 or a token/medal with nice color, I'd be interested as well)
~Toned Morgans...looking for vivid/bright (reverse toners are fine; upper limit is around $600-could stretch a bit more for the right coin)
Those last two coins should certainly be obtainable, I would think.
Though, I was at the Lakeland show last week (sort of a mini pre-FUN show), and there seemed to be far fewer nice toners of ANY kind available than one would typically see at a 50 dealer show. CC dollars were also in very short supply, raw or slabbed (these were on my want list).
I haven’t sold on the bst for a very long time. I tried a few times over the last few months and

had some good results. It was a mixed bag of a few coins and tokens……mostly tokens.
Everything has sold except 3 Masonic tokens, in which I’m in no hurry to sell so I may just take the 3
remaining off and keep them for now.

I have a Whipple dollar.

I think it’s under graded and thought to submit for review but haven’t had a chance.

You posted some great items so it makes sense that the first round of sales went well!
Ive noticed that the BST has slowed down from a couple years ago. Still one of my favorite places 2 buy besides a local show. I just wish i could fond the rest of my Walker's already!!!
