True, the OP did say dispose and mentioned just going to a dealer. But I'm sure you would agree he wasn't suggesting just going to any dealer. Most of the discussion that followed regarding sending the coins in for grading was based on NOT having a trusted dealer.

Yes. Not having a dealer in the area changes things. Trusted or not, sometimes there is no dealer. But if you know the melt of the gold, you don't have to know the dealer to negotiate. You just can't trust him if he says it is counterfeit or lowballs you.

Of course, even if you don't have a dealer in the area, I'm sure many of us could give them a trusted dealer they could ship the coins to.

I love PCGS. But there are just some things that aren't worth slabbing and XF/AU common date gold would be it. You have to at least have a chance to UNC and usually 63 to make it worth the cost.

I think in general that's true. Unfortunately so much of the buying/selling is online these days and not done face to face. I took a look at Ebay and there must have been twenty 1922 MS-62's for sale with prices from $2200 up to $3000 and two that were listed as $4400/$4800 or best offer!!!

I've never been in the coin business but I wondering if you can survive these days without a strong online presents. The LCS I've been dealing with for 20 years (been in business much long) recently went out of business so it may be getting more difficult to find someone you can develop and the face to face relationship with while also building trust.

Remarkably $2200 is not crazy for a 62 saint at the momennt. Wholesale is over $1900.

I think there are a lot of headwinds for small businesses in general at the moment. Coin stores aren't exempt.

Unfortunately I'd have to agree. My LCS I've been dealing with for over 20 years (been in business much longer) just shut their doors. There is a lot to be said for being able to walk in, browse, talk to a person and meet other collectors in the process.
