    While I am not a fan of the design and lack of star power for the 1986 Topps Baseball set I do like some of those Topps Traded Tiffany cards!

    A couple of years ago I ripped two vending cases to see if I could put together a Gem mint set raw and hunt for a PSA 10 Sandberg. I found this to be an awesome idea until I hit half way through the second case. I was exhausted and punted the idea of putting the set together. If memory serves me correctly, the A's were horribly off centered.

    Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases

    I think somebody would have to be willing to make a major commitment and have extreme patience while he prepared to take perhaps years of ripping an excessive amount of ‘86 to achieve that. Would be a noble achievement. I think you’re correct in regards to the A’s. I want to say majority of mine had centering issues but the black area on the top of the cards were solid. None of the fraying/flaking or bread crumming as I call it. Overall, in general I’d say about 70-30 flaking around the black edges vs centering issues.

    Like I have said before, this set has a special place in my heart. I know many people don’t care for the design, but a truly mint copy of a card from this set is a thing of beauty.

    I actually love the design due to the black border, I could see this being a pretty desirable set ten years from now. The only negative thought I have towards the set started in 1986 when my dad made a deal that I could get any unopened case at Sam's for some arrangement we had set. I show up and you guessed correctly. The 1986-87 Fleer basketball case was $119, the 1986 Topps football was $219 and my 1986 Topps baseball was $329. Boy did I screw up.

    LOL. Great story, 1954. Funny how few many people were not into basketball cards back then. Even card shops didn’t carry or had to special order them for you it felt like. Had to wait for big card shows to score any hoops cards back then. I feel like the ‘89 NBA Hoops and the David Robinson Series 1 RC is what really got basketball cards going.

    Hopefully you snagged a gem Sandberg, Nolan, or Davis back then to lessen the sting of your memory 🤓

    The 1986 Topps Gooden was on fire spring and summer of ‘86. It was $3 vs. $8 for the 1985 Topps; 1984 Topps Traded was almost a white whale back then.
