How did the Simpson Pattern Sale do? Lots on eBay!

I search eBay for patterns and recently I've noticed a lot of pieces from the Simpson collection at fixed prices from a good number of different dealers.

How did the Simpson pattern sales do at auction on Heritage?

What is the pattern market like these days?

    USpatterns.com web site posts auction results and offer simple comments ... the last 3 sales part 3,4,5 they felt a strong showing and on part 2 " This was the 2nd of 6 sales of patterns from the Simpson collection. Prices were a mixed bag, strong on unique, two cent, trade dollars, 1838-9 and 1877 half dollars while weak on goloid dollar"

    I was pleased on the weakness of the Goloid as I picked up 2 that I wanted to put into my type set.

    The most pieces I noted as resales were values at 200 % over the auction price ... so I am sure those dealers felt the pieces were a buy. I did pick up one piece that I did not bid on from a dealer for an 1 & 1/2 increment over final bid and I felt that was a fair value for what I was looking for.

    I picked up a nice one from a dealer for less than the next bid increment - glad I quit bidding! :D

    Laura was not a big fan of patterns either but she has warmed up to them a little recently.

    SPEAKING OF PATTERNS

    We have long loved Patterns. Not fully because of Mr Simpson. However, while helping him build his great unequaled Pattern collection we saw many amazing coins and learned a lot. We had always loved the beauty of these designs that could have been.

    Pattern are genuinely rare. They are neat as heck and some are just too gorgeous. Most of all-they are GROSSLY UNDERvalued. Working with the Standard Series lately (see the Simpson Patterns we will be selling in May), these coins actually are RARER and cost LESS then examples of the same date and grade. Collectors should NOT be afraid of this area-it is NOT manipulated (that was 20+ years ago).
