Why eBay Sellers Drink: What is this coin made of?

airplanenutairplanenut Posts: 22,520 ✭✭✭✭✭

I get this question a fair bit. Usually for items where it's easy to look up what the issue is made of (there aren't multiple varieties of metals for a given year), yet apparently it's easier to ask than to do homework, and whatever the answer, it usually doesn't lead to a bid. Now, I know this is a darkside coin, but I'm going to let you play the home game and guess what this coin is made of.

If they mean the fineness/ percentage gold, they should be specific. I don't know offhand either. Is it 90%?

I checked the buyer's feedback left, saw a few negs among not many feedbacks given overall, and given that it was pretty clear he also didn't read any part of the listing, decided to block him instead of replying.

I agree, and to your point, I don't know off-hand, either. I could look it up, but so could the buyer. That said, as is usually the case where this is the question being asked (however specific or not the question actually is), the numismatic value is going to be worth far more than the metal value, especially if we're talking a few percent, rather than gold vs. silver.

I was cleaning up some of my Ebay listings.

Probably 22K if I had to guess.

Really confuse them by saying crown gold.

Hard to say. Some people aren’t very smart. Some people are lazy and for some people English isn’t their first language. If the potential buyer was being serious perhaps they were looking for confirmation from you that the coin was gold and not gold plated. Otherwise IDK.

I had a question last night... guy said he couldn't pay for a $4 Lincoln cent.

It was in Spanish, and this is what I surmised from the google translator.

    I am US only... IDK
