I'd love your input, please...

Hey Guys...

I grew up trying to collect autographs at Padres Spring Training and Padres games in the 1980s. I don't really collect baseball anymore, but those are still very fond memories.

I've been kicking around the idea of starting a collection consisting of nothing but cards showing baseball players signing autographs for fans. Any player, any year, any brand. I've got the Topps 35th anniversary book to look for images from 1951-1985, but I am kind of stumped beyond that. I'm hoping that you all might know of some of these types of cards and can post titles of the cards and images if you have them, that I can then transfer to a living checklist. The Luis Tiant is posted below as an example of what I am talking about.

Thanks for your help.

Todd

i could get behind that concept. a tad bit different but the back of the '89 upper deck gary pettis blew my mind as a young collector. not necessarily signing the card but holding the card you are currently holding? what? 🤯

@countdougIas - that's a great one! Would you mind telling me the name of the issue? I don't know a lot of the newer stuff. Thanks!

@blurryface - thanks. Just an idea for a meaningful, but likely monetarily worthless collection. I remember that 89 Pettis and thinking the same thing.

Cool idea Todd. I've always liked the 1971 Manny Sanguillen card.

@AFLfan That Brett is a 2015 Topps Stadium Club. The photo was originally featured in a National Geographic from 1976?, I believe. Supposedly, as I understand it, the photograph itself is the inspiration for the New Zealand pop singer Lorde's Grammy winning song, Royals. She saw it flipping through some old magazines, having no knowledge of baseball or Brett, just that the Jersey said Royals and everyone had their hand out trying to touch him, be near him, get a piece of him.

I don't buy a lot of modern stuff, but weren't the SP Versions in the Topps flagship set a few years back photos of players signing autographs for the crowd?
