UPS does it also. These are changes that have been implemented due to Covid. Signature confirmation is essentially a moot service right now. I believe they are supposed to wait and see you at least get the package without having to actually sign for it but most carriers don't bother.

USPS did this to someone I know. The worst part is the mailbox is out of view from the house. Thankfully no one stole it, but it’s awful because you pay extra for it.

I am fortunate enough to have a good mail carrier. He signs for the package (per COVID rule), but he rings the bell and waits for me or my mother to come out and let's us know that it was a package that required a signature. Most of the carriers I'm sure ring the bell, sign for the package and leave the package even if no one comes out to receive it.

I had a few kilos of silver sitting in my mailbox, on my street, with a signature required label on it a few weeks ago. I suppose I got lucky. UPS dropped off a large box of valuable coins with a signature required sticker on it recently without a signature to accompany it.

They are playing with "COVID" rules right now.

UPS put $3000 in Silver Eagles on my front porch.

As you say, it's Covid rules.

My USPS mailman rings the bell, hands me the package, hands me the electronic stylist signature thingy. I sign and thank him. Neither of us has masks. Three time since the pandemic.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for quite awhile now. These local governments and their do nothing laws, should require these delivery companies to ONLY drop and run, if the customer specifically allows that. For years I have seen instructions to "just leave if no answer". They should be required to arrange for pick-up location, "notice left". Remember door tags?

Or the best time to get served papers...you can get them stolen off your porch.

I asked at the PO why they couldn’t ring the doorbell when they leave a package that won’t fit in the mailbox. I was told because of Covid-19 that they couldn’t touch anything. Guess opening and closing the mailbox 📫 doesn’t count. 🙈

COVID!!! Fedex left my package in my driveway and my dog chewed it up(an electronic device). Received another from Amazon the next day, unbeleiveable. Go Amazon.
Another time Fedex was in process of leaving a 4x4' sheet of plexiglass on my porch and I saw them(never knocked on door or blew horn) it was broken all to pieces in box. Refused it and he wrote it up as being refused due to damage. The next day I saw him getting in his truck in the driveway and I yelled at him and he tore out. There sitting on the porch was the same damaged package. Took it to the manager at the warehouse who took it and said she would return it to Lowes and I would be reimbursed. I was so upset over the guy leaving the same damaged package again, I never got a receipt. Package never made it to Lowes, never got a refund and no one at FedEx remembered it without a receipt.

USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL do not require their personnel to ask for
signatures. Thank you COVID. My mailman does not even leave a
note for my packages. I get an Email alert that I have a package to
pick up. I was home all day and I get the alert at 8PM. We need to
get Chuck Norris to go in and clean house.

So what happens to a registered that gets stolen ? They know who had it last. Is the insured value still recoverable ?

Now that the vaccines are making their way through the population I wonder how much longer this process will continue?

My mail carrier has been very good when it comes to packages. He always brings it to the door and rings the doorbell. If it’s signature required he will stand back and see if anyone answers. It works for me since I’m working from home and 30 feet from the door.

I understand the "covid rules." What I don't understand is that with all the time saved by not walking to knock on the door to get required signatures why USPS if more behind in deliveries than they are at Christmas time.

One can only imagine how bad the delays will become if carriers ever do start getting required signatures once again.

FWIW my carrier does knock on the door with a registered package. He sets it down, steps away and asks if he can sign for it.

I deal with covid daily and it doesn’t make me an out and out liar. I have videos where they leave it in my box or leave a note stating I wasn’t home forcing me to go to to P.O. where I show the videos to the local postmaster. Nothing but promises to look into it. What other job allows such incompetent liars?

I rented a PO Box for this reason.
PCGS & CAC boxes won't fit in the smallest ones so they put a little card in and you have to surrender it and show your ID to get the shipment.
You also have to sign with that little plastic tipped pen thingy.

It forces PCGS to use USPS which is much better than UPS/Fed-Ex in my area.

They will likely have several boxes to choose from.
If you let them pick, you might have to do this to see in....

Do you know how the term “Politics” originated?

You have to go to the root of the word: “Poli”, meaning “many”, and “tics”, meaning “blood sucking insects”.

Small town living. First name basis with the postmaster. He holds ALL my packages and I stop in every 3 days. Sooner if I know something has arrived per tracking. I remember him at Christmas with a card and a little $$$. Well worth it for the peace of mind it brings.
