In this weeks Coin World there is an article about the Set Registry.As I did not get my issue of coin world I could appreciate any feedback about the article

    I posted the same thing on the 18th titled Nice article in Coin World.

    Is this the artlicle they interviewed you about? If it is, I didn't see your, or anyone else's name mentioned.

    There were quotes in there from Stewart and a reference made to the registry article on Pinnacles site. The article appears on page 16 and is a full page story. It gives a little history of the registry and a general idea of how coins are scored. It quotes you as saying that the sharp diparities in prices for common-date coins have made it difficult for you to complete your late-date run of Lincoln cents. They also quote you as saying that the clamor to be the first to get the highest graded (modern) had driven up prices to previously unreached heights. Also mentions your IHC set and the Long Beach challenge.

    Overall a good article for those not familiar with the registries at NGC and PCGS, with information on where they are and how to join.

    I skimmed through the paper and saw the piece toward the back. I haven't sat down to read the entire paper yet. Hopefully later today.

    Everybody's talking about this issue, and mine's late because of the Christmas rush.
    I am most eager to see it; especially the new trends prices.

    Could this be so, that the best plastic sets belong to those with the biggest pocketbook? True, you can have a great eye and a big pocketbook, but you can also have a terrible eye and a great pocketbook and "put together" a high "grade" set with numbers on a slab. In one case, it is a lot of work to be sure.

    I think the registry Program has a bit of elitist attitude to the quest. I cannot understand this way of thinking. Do you really know you have the best? I have one. I am number one in a field of well...one. My collection isn't even close to the real number one set. How do I know? Because I know who has gone before me and I learned about them. I have seen their coins and they are still out there somewhere. This set wherever it is or whoever has it will probably never have it "graded." I can live with that and still enjoy my hunt.

    I have been in this hobby since 1997 on a real basis. I cannot believe the things that go on. I have seen dealers behaving like children. I have seen out and out liars. I have seen all sorts of puffery. Its fascinating and its sad. I have seen some good things too. I have seen amazing acts of honesty and generosity.

    I am having fun with set registry and when that stops I am cracking my coppers out and bye bye. If you are not enjoying it anymore move on. If you cant stand others enjoying it leave us alone.

    ...........the registry setup is a good one. all the negatives associated with it seem to come from us who participate in it. for some the drive to be number one is quite strong, and as others have alluded to deep pockets, quite attainable. for me, it's more about comparing collections with other like-minded collectors, gaining knowledge in areas of interest and stress relief!!!!image

    with regard to insert numbers and who has the best collection, i feel the option to upload pictures of our coins is one of the biggest registry assets and also one of the most underused. if PCGS could somehow photograph collections, for a fee of course, that would offer a true assessment of individual collections.
