It is pretty easy to flush out the rats if one is soliciting coins for approval.
OTOH, if they have some combination of ebay store, a B&M, several referrals from BST, IG or other social media or forum footprint... then I would have no problem sending a coin.
For decades coin dealers operated this way thru mail order/Coin World ads...

If the Buyer pays you by PayPal Friends & Family, they can use a Credit Card and can also file a chargeback! It seems that some Forum Members mistakenly believe PPFF is safer than standard PP...
If you do that (use a credit card) doesn't the buyer pay the 3% fee? I thought that PPFF was used to avoid the 3% transaction fee.
Yes, PPFF lets the buyer use a CC and buyer pays the 3%.

Google maps shows around 10 in the general area. Such highspots as the Walgreens and the Dollar General store.

He isn't happy with my sudden change of plans in sending money to a western union. I would have thought a scammer would have noticed that play but nope, not this tool. He was zelle or cash app now.

Late to the thread as usual, but this guy wrote to me about the used PCCB plastic slab shells that I am looking to buy.
He said Cortez had a few. Only wanted $6 each for them. I told him that was to rich for my blood, that I can order them new from China for $1.29 each. He asked how much I was willing to pay. He got really quiet when I told him 25 cents each.

I'm still not convinced that he isn't just trying to make money by buying from eBay and filling want lists on BST. Has he ever quoted a price lower than the coin was available on eBay?
Yes. He was going to do $200 for a Dan Carr 1964 Peace Dollar. Down from his original $750. Complete scam.
Seriously, you would entertain sending a coin before payment was made? I highly doubt it.
And anyone who asked me to do it would immediately be suspected as a thief. As I said, the payment can be insured and recovered if necessary. The coin cannot be recalled.
I have to disagree with you on this one. I recently completed a deal on our BST with @wondercoin. I sent him a coin that he offered to buy on the BST and a couple of days after he received the coin he sent the money. This is pretty common.

Is it common to send coins to people who are not known (like a new member, maybe) before receiving payment? I am highly doubtful.

Agreed. I would not send a coin to a new member. That was the point I was trying to make. Someone has to send something first. If a new member is buying a coin from an established member who has references from other members then the new member sends cash first. And if that established member offers to buy a coin on the BST then the new member sends the coin before receiving payment.

That is really the reverse, isn't it? Wondercoin is a major dealer and not at all the situation that was represented here.
I don't think so. In the post above that I replied to @MasonG , I tried to explain my thinking. I view an established member as being akin to an established dealer and a new member as being a collector. A dealer is not going to send a coin or money first.
I am not new here. I have been a member since 2012 but I don't post a lot and I don't know anyone here personally. I have only bought a couple of coins on the BST and sold the one I mentioned. Without a history on the BST, I sent the money and the coin first. If I was a regular buyer and seller on the BST, I would expect that would change some over time.

Yes, PPFF lets the buyer use a CC and buyer pays the 3%.
And what is the point of that? Getting to use PPFF, still paying the 3%, and receiving no protection?

I've had a few very honorable transactions on the BST every time it was like this: The buyer sent payment by paypal and the seller shipped the coin. Never a bad transaction. I've been on both ends of these deals. There was never any need for a third person to "broker the deal", so to speak. @HashTag seriously LOL!!

I asked if he had any Faberge eggs available and he asked, "light or dark chocolate"?
I too was contacted about a gold Indian $10 on a Pm

Weird. I thought Cortes was in Texas.
Superb collections are built more by omission than by addition.

He never made it to Texas, Hernán Cortés de Monroy y Pizarro Altamirano was the conqueror of the Aztec empire in what is now Mexico.

I don't see where that is a valid address in the property tax records for Grenada County, MS

boy, sorry to hear of your disappointment that they only deal in peace dollars. that 1964 morgan over struck dollar would pair perfectly with it.
Someone should offer to do the deal in person and see what they say.

perhaps having "Tahsa" call to the landlines above with a request to speak to the above 2 people might be a final task to close any deal.
Kinda sounds medical...
