    Genuine. It probably spent many years buried and was then found and placed back into circulation. The elements in the soil turned it black.

    So when you say genuine. Do you mean it is a black nickle cause there seem to be a lot of mixed feelings about this error on line

    Genuine = made by the US Mint.
    Black = not as made but a process that happened after the coin left the mint (Post Mint Damage)

    Here's some help: If YOU can't see the doubling in the
    photo you took of your dime, no one else can either.

    Can you see clear doubling that you mention in the photo above?

    Your dime photos are not very good, however I can say with a fairly high degree of certainty that what you are seeing is just worthless strike doubling.

    The dime has machine (or strike) doubling...no numismatic premium... The nickel discoloration is also post mint...frequently from being in the ground for a while...Cheers, RickO

    My opinion: If you have to wonder about it or need high magnification to see it it is not worth bothering with.
