Attempt to capture toning using ProRAW on iPhone 12 pro

iPhone just put out ProRAW for iPhone 12 Pro and Promax. I attempted to use it to try and capture the color of a toned coin. I’m not sure if I did it right. I watched a couple of YouTube videos before trying and I had to download some app to process the images. At some point it turned from a raw image into a regular image, I don’t even know when/how. But the end result is that the images look pretty darn close to what the coin looks like in hand. It took too long though. But anyway, here’s the final image.

Thanks. One thing I noticed is that the images look great on my iPhone and look pretty good on my iPad mini, but not quite as good as on the iPhone. I’m not sure if it’s just cause the images are a bit smaller on iPhone vs iPad or if it’s just a better monitor/screen on the new iPhone where the color “pops” more. I have no idea what they look like on a regular computer, I don’t even use a regular computer anymore at home. It’s just so much easier to use an iPad or iPhone to surf the Internet on my couch that I just quit using laptops and PCs about 5 years ago.

Here’s a quick one on a Franklin. I’d say it’s about 85% there. The rainbow that shows up on the left actually goes around the whole coin instead of just looking golden brown around the periphery. I think it has as much to do with lighting as it does the iPhone camera, and because I don’t really know what I’m doing yet in ProRAW

Here’s the obverse of the same coin. This one I’d say is about 90% dead on with a light purple toning over most of the coin turning golden red-orange towards the bottom right. The photos on both sides make the breaks in the toning more obvious than in hand and I might need to go down in the brightness on the reverse and up in the brightness on the obverse to make them more even if I want to put them next to each other in one image.

I’m using a wide mouth plastic bottle as a tripod to keep the phone level and shooting straight on. Here’s a picture of my setup. The Franklin was easier to shoot than the Trime, for some reason I’m having trouble getting the lighting even on smaller coins even with 3 Ott lights.

I was never able to get clear images like yours. My hands shake to much even
when I rest it on something. Pretty dog gone good job

I use the built in timer on the iPhone that takes the picture 10 seconds after you push the button. My hands shake too

Thanks, I found that Franklin in a mint set in one of those old mint sets with the cardboard holders about 15 years ago and sent it in for grading about 8 years ago.
