ashelandasheland Posts: 24,474 ✭✭✭✭✭

Finally! It’s been dry lately, but I found a good one today. >:)B)
$9 plus tax, under $10 total
650 grams!

The hallmarks are really small, hard to photograph.

Cool huh? :D

I’m happy. It’s been a while finding nothing in my travels...

Here’s some info on the marks. The assay mark was used between 1838 and 1972. Can’t seem to find the diamond shaped maker mark but I’m sure it’s Auzolle as stamped in the box.

Is there a .950 stamped anywhere or just the proof mark.

Awesome, thought you gave up looking!

It's just "Minerva and the 1" which is the French fineness mark... It's stamped twice though, once on the top and one on the bottom of the piece...

This may be a dumb question, but how is it that an item like that can make it through to an antique store display without the store or the consignor knowing what it is? Nice score!

It's a dealer mall where anyone can simply rent a booth and load it up with whatever. It was in a booth all dusty, it was full of glass knobs... It looked unmarked at first glance, it isn't surprising that it slipped through. The marks are really small and in weird placement on this particular piece. Most French pieces for that matter have their hallmarks in weird places.

Easy to miss as solid silver...

Highly recommend getting a copy of Jackson's Hallmarks. It's only for the UK and Ireland, but it helps knowing what to look for.

Indeed I agree. I already have the pocket edition and the full size copy. It’s Tardy’s hallmarks with the other countries that I need to find. It’s been difficult trying to find who made this piece.

I agree! The design and heft make it a great piece. After polishing it up, I decided to keep it for now. 👍

Another find (different mall) from this Saturday:

$99 each after tax, they ended up netting slightly over 20 Troy ozs ASW.
These were a catch and release this time, 198 in, 431 out. >:)
