PCGS Banknote Certifies African Rarity: Zanzibar 1916 10 Rupees

PCGS Banknote recently certified this African rarity, the Zanzibar 1916 10 Rupees. Banknotes issued by Zanzibar were short lived, as the first issues bear a year of 1908 and the last banknotes state 1928. And in 1936, all of these issues were withdrawn as the state moved to the use of East African Shillings.

Graded Choice Fine 15 Details with notations of “Rust, Foreign Substance,”, and “Writing in Pencil” this example is still expected to bring as much as $60,000 in its current offering! Stack's Bowers notes knowledge of only one other 1916.
