That last line in the story. .... Dont count your chickens until they're hatched .....is very true.

    Absolutely brutal.

Not even close to the amount of money, but this reminds me of some horses I bet easily winning the race, but then get disqualified for some extremely minor infraction, when you've seen horses not get disqualified for doing much worse.

The track announcer always says, hold all tickets until the result is official...and yes don't count your money on anything until it's in your hand or bank account.

Simple , but true, answer: Stewards bet more on the other horse.

If that's the reason, it's no bueno.

how would you like it if you had the college team that lost last week as the kicker quadruple doinked a 45 yd field goal at the buzzer...no good.

That quadruple doinke was a thing of absolute, unintended, shocking beauty. Like out of a movie.

    Oh well.

Another example - Some player hits on a progressive slot machine jackpot for big money. The bells and whistles start blowing, the casino attendants and everyone around is congratulating the player. The player is overjoyed with visions of new cars, lavish vacations, buying a dream house, etc.

Then some casino mole from upstairs comes strutting in to the casino floor to tell the player that the slot machine malfunctioned...that there is no jackpot.

Then after the commotion settles, some casino boss comes up to the player, apologizes, and offers a meal comp and room, maybe some show tickets, as compensation. Yea, like that makes the player feel a whole lot better?

I realize DraftKings was not at fault on this...but come on, the money they make...at least show some class and give the guy an extra 25k or so to help ease the pain of a horrible disappointment.

I've heard easy come, easy go, but that is just absolutely ridiculous. If it were me, I don't think I would go away so easily.> @stevek said:

Some players have sued to try to get what they thought was their money, after being denied a won jackpot at a casino. However in every case that i've read about, the courts have ruled in favor of the casinos.

This has even happened with state lottery tickets whereby players won a jackpot, but the tickets for some reason were ruled invalid...printing error or whatever the yell it was.

I didn't know that. The lottery tickets have the bar code, so if it is not scannable, I can see that. Perhaps doctored or altered in some way. The slot machine, I just don't understand.

How about Chubb going out of bounce untouched at the 1 instead of taking the easiest TD ever and destroying bettors that took Cleveland? That would make me seriously think about boarding a flight to Cleveland and getting beat up after sucker punching one Mr. Nicholas Chubb 😳

  • stevekstevek Posts: 27,582 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yahoo sports, and probably other websites as well, seem to have a "bad beat" story about sports betting almost every week.

Yea, that one with Chubb was brutal.

But from what i've read, Chubb shouldn't have run that far. He was told to fall down if he picked up the first down, and the clock would have run out. So Chubb should have just fell down around the 40 yard line, and the losing bettors may not have felt quite as badly seeing that.

Or even if he just stopped at the 1 to keep the clock running. I know he was doing what he was asked to by Mayfield but he even messed that up along with absolutely screwing bettors.
