Can anyone share a Truview that was taken through the holder?

I have some already graded coins that I would like Truviewed and was wondering if I could save some hassle by not reholdering since many are CAC. Thanks in advance!

fcloud has an example of where they took the photo of the coin while it was still in the NGC holder, prior to crossing.

I think that was a mistake though. There was a recent thread where maybe another example or two showed up as well.

I don't think the TrueView department takes photos of slabbed coins though, call customer service to be sure.

However, there are some very good forum members that do. Todd, blu62vette, is one of them.

It wouldn't be a TruView pic if it was taken while the coin was still in the holder.

If everyone could get TrueViews w/o having to pay the reholder fee, everyone would probably do that. I think it's done under certain exceptions, maybe Rattlers encasing more valuable coins.

You lose your CAC sticker when you Reholder/TrueView but CAC will re-sticker them with proof they had a sticker before.

If I recall correctly, PCGS did a True View for WingedLiberty57 for a Morgan dollar that was in an OGH. Of course, I could be mistaken, but this is what I remember.

Imaging through the holder should be an option, provided the holder is without distracting marks which would obstruct viewing. I have had to give up a few older holders with the solid gaskets to get my coins trueviewed.

Sometimes they get done. Sometimes they don't.

I had a couple that were done. You will see that they are not even close to the shots taken raw and then crossed....

These were taken by Phil/Truview back ~Oct 2013. The coins did not cross at grade. I like them, and I still have them. IHC is in NGC. Morgan $ is PCI (for reference around the plastic)

Perhaps I am misremembering that someone had advised in the past that you could request a Truview of coin in a PCGS holder. I would like to have all my coins Truviewed but the cost of getting them all sent in, reholdered, then many sent to CAC to be restickered is prohibitive. Should probably call PCGS to determine what the options are. Thanks!

I found it. WingedLiberty1957 posted an 1882-O that was shot through an OGH for TrueView. The link is here.

That's the one I was thinking of as well. The black background looks nice. Here's what it looks like with the white background:

This coin was imaged at a Long Beach Show (courtesy of David Hall and Don Willis, during "Meet the Expert"), and I got it back within an hour or so. The holder was already a newer-style and in good condition, so it was left in the holder for efficiency:

That’s a great photo! I can't see evidence of the gaskets. Phil @PCGSPhoto did a great job hiding the gasket here!

Here's one from Doug Winter for comparison:

I have to say this one is very impressive. I can only see the smallest hint of the gasket on the reverse and probably wouldn't notice it if I wasn't told it was shot in holder and specifically looking for it.

Here's one where the gasket is more visible on both sides:

@mach1ne did you get yours done on-site or with standard mail in?

I wish posters who resurrect threads will clearly note that they have done so before they write whatever is relevant for resurrection. Didn't realize this was a 2016 thread until much later. Irritating.

I did a series of threads a few months ago on the five coins I had TrueViews done thru the holders. Here are the five:

It does take a sharp eye sometimes to catch ‘em .... I tend to think of it more as just the nature of the beast of a long running forum. But I hear ya. Like everyone else once I realize it’s been resurrected I do the slow scroll up from the bottom to see WHO is ‘guilty’ of the bump ... haha

I wrote in bold uppercase letters "DO NOT CRACK - TRUEVIEW THROUGH PLASTIC ONLY" in about 6 places on the submission form. It worked.

I also used some PlastX on the slab before I sent it in to clean up any scuffs or scratches.
