Maybe there needs to be a pinned post on board etiquette. Unfortunately, self control is rare on the web.

Maybe it would go ever well if he would offer to pay a small fee for opinions. Bet it would be popular then!

I was unsure who this thread was intended for but I think Alanski is a good forum member. This forum has never been a "GTG" place. It's more about the comraderie, friendly and not-so-friendly insults and stories about coins. Maybe we need a new category if these types of threads become more commonplace but as of today there are other forums that handle GTG questions better than this one. :)

Who cares? Bunch of grumpier than me old men here. I love guess the grade threads.

As noted above, GTG threads are not the problem. It's the extreme volume and frequency that causes other threads to be moved to Page 2 quicker than necessary. We're talking about etiquatte, and my guess is the poster was just unaware. Eight similar threads on page one by the same member is not nice to other members. Do you still disagree?

I disagree. If anybody is really concerned about their 15 minutes on the first page, they can just bump their thread. Woe!

You seem to have a lot of opinions on what this board is and isn't for. Might I suggest you start your own?

That was a rude comment. I don't mind GTG threads but there usually are a lot more than just one. My experience is with CCF where they have a category dedicated to it with literally over 200,000 GTG posts. If this forum started that then it would quickly overwhelm the main forum.

    Hmmmm
Etiquette, not coin related. Nor is the OP’s post.

Treat others as you want them to treat you can also mean “Don’t hog the first page”.

    gee

griping about something minor when there are much more important things to worry over then how many posts are on page one

opinions are words spoken by those who have little or no clue on the issue in front them

Obviously, we now all clearly see that there are some of us that recognize etiquette and care about others, and there are others on this Forum that don't. I guess that's what makes the world go around. I give @AlanSki the benefit of the doubt, as i indicated earlier, so my comment here is not referring to him.

Time for the moderator to close this thread.

Guys, chill - perhaps this could have been done privately?
Just not nice to knock someone publicly like this unless he/she is clogging page 1 with parking lot finds or pure nonsense. These were mostly GTG's which many like to take a stab at.
Assume he did not know the rules.

Lets forgive and welcome him again as a newbie, who gets an A for effort at least.

@AlanSki There’s really not a better place to go. Just listen to the guys on here that are giving good Internet posting etiquette advice. They’ve been here a long time, I listen to them. I see you were in the Air Force. My dad and grandfather were both in the Air Force. My grandfather flew one of the first flights into Normandy. We have his flight map somewhere. I didn’t serve. I do have their coins though. Receiving them after my father‘s death rekindled by collecting spark. Thanks for sharing yours.

Apparently they want me gone too! I'll let you know the address of my new coin forum after I'm done fine-tuning it and we can be charter HOF members! In the meantime I'll just take a well deserved break.

I guess I am confused, can someone point me to the rules where it says you can't post more than one post on page one?
It seems to me that some people on here don't have any thing better to do than complain about someone who has beautiful coins to post and is very curious about what people think of them.

As a fairly new guy here, I'll throw a couple lincolns in if I may w/o offending anybody. I can see both sides of this. As for multiple GTG's, they could all be consolidated into 1 post. When I'm following certain threads I quickly end up on page 2 looking for a thread that was just posted within the last day. I to enjoy the GTG's as it helps me learn from those smarter and more experienced than I and I've been collecting for 56 years. Parking lot finds, coinstar finds, CRH ? Yes I read them, just don't want to see the forum clogged up with multiple posts about the 17 Wheatie's found after searching 100 rolls or your VF 1964 Jefferson in the Coinstar reject chute. I learn from alot of you, like to keep it that way. Just asking for some etiquette, common sense and NOT the attitute. Rant over.

In super-popular forums, stuff gets pushed off page one in an hour or two. Oh, to have such problems here.....

BryceM Agreed, but lately, not the case here. I rather enjoy AlanSki and his GTG's. I just think they could be placed under 1 post with several coins in that single post. I'm usually off 1 grade either way. Same as my submissions. used to be alot more than that. His and others who post GTG's have helped my grading skills. Can't say the same for CRH's. I have a few thousand Wheaties that I haven't looked at in years. Just doesn't do anything for me.

This isn’t CCF. (And that wasn’t the LEAST bit rude; hold my beer.)

Interjecting your opinions on how a board that isn’t yours should be run especially when the posts are all well within the rules, what do you call that? At a minimum, petty, and it’s also rude to the member who was singled out in this thread.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

I had no idea what a GTG post meant until opening this thread. The idea of creating a subforum for guessing the grade is actually a pretty good idea since there appear to be a dedicated group here who really enjoy the exercise.

I think it would be great if there was a GTG website / app where people could upload photos and grades. Then we can have leaderboards of the best photograders over time :)

I don't mind the GTG threads. They are a fun aspect of collecting. It doesn't affect me that much because I tend to collect absolute rarities and toners, but I can appreciate it and will guess on occasion myself.
