I only ship US coins to the US. Foreign coins I will ship to the country of origin. Just my personal preference. There are enough buyers of most of what I sell right here in the good old USA.

I will not sell to China.
    No concerns.

I used to ship worldwide but not anymore- it's US addresses only. Compared to domestic, international shipping is expensive- if you offer free shipping and build it into the price, your listing gets overlooked because its "overpriced". If you charge for shipping, buyers complain because of the cost and can ding your rating. Either way, you get buyers who expect you to lie on customs forms so they don't have to pay import fees. Too many things can go wrong with delivery and no matter what, it's the seller's fault. Lost package? No problem- eBay and PayPal get their fees, the post office gets paid for shipping, the buyer gets a refund and the seller eats the loss.

If international shipping works for you, that's great. As for me, no thanks.

  • My concern is attempted scams and thought coin would only serve as something to be copied.

All of your concerns are eliminated if you use ebay's international shipping options. You are only responsible for what you sell while it is in transit to ebay's shipping hub in the states.

Does eBay charge the seller for Global Shipping Program or the buyer? I’ve never selected it because I have no idea what it costs.

The buyer pays, they also collect import taxes so there shouldn't be any surprises for the buyer...which there are sometimes. The international shipping, which I use for less expensive items is a few pennies cheaper than the USPS but comes with $100 insurance. Taxes are not collected on these.

I ship to US only. There are enough ebay crooks here, don't need any more.

I tried it. Buyers don't like it because it's expensive.

Whether they like it of not, there is a lot of business to be had. I think I've sold around 10K overseas in the last 2-3 months. No problems so far....KNOCK ON WOOD!

Depending on what you're selling, I'd agree. Thing is- a lot of what I'm selling goes for ten/fifteen bucks and buyers won't pay for shipping that doubles their cost. Based on a quick look on ebay right now, a coin that costs me 70 cents to ship in the US costs over 10 bucks to Canada.

I've had quite a few sales where the shipping cost was at or a bit more than the item...even got positive feedback. Most understand the shipping costs. Most of those are seashells though!

I'd be happy if it worked that way for me, but my experiment some time back with listing stuff including eBay's international shipping didn't get me any sales. It did, however, generate a number of inquiries, asking if I could ship to the buyer directly so that it wouldn't cost so much.

I don't know anything about seashell collectors, but I have quite a bit of experience dealing with coin collectors and, as a general rule, those guys tend to be... thrifty- yeah, that's the word I was looking for. ;)

I guess a lot of folks around here don't have the nerve to do it. I've sold several 4 figure coins through the global shipping program. The most recent was $2175. I even shipped a $2,000+ flying eagle cent to Malaysia! If you want to ship overseas, and want insurance...the ebay global shipping program is much cheaper than any other method...unless private insurance is cheaper.

If I was selling 4 figure coins, I wouldn't have a problem using eBay's program. As I noted above, however... selling $10 coins with $10 shipping is a non-starter.

that will all depend on HOW you ship to Canada!
I buy from all over the world. usually small stuff.
However I hate to say the some US seller are outright rude by not shipping to Canada.
I have seen US sellers wanting USD 18,95 for a $ 3 coin. when asked why, the answer usually is: I lost too many items.
I rest my case and will never ever buy from them. Will also not buy from anyone who insists on shipping via Feebays global shipping!

It's easier to ship to China than Canada. Try it sometime.

  • Are you concerned the China buyer only wants something to serve as a template for producing fakes??

I've shipped a few to China. My 1st is in the works with just ebay's standard International shipping. So far so good....knock on wood. That is a very slow service...usually 6 weeks-almost 3 months!
