Does this Lincoln wheat cent look like it was previously encased, or could it be an error. I have posted this coin on another coin forum and that is what some members told me, although I speculate they may be wrong. Does this coin look like it was previously encased? I Would like a second opinion on this forum. Thank you, Jacqueline

    It was an encased cent. The flattened areas that you point out are from the process that pressed the coin into the holder.

    It isn't a mint error. The minting process wouldn't leave a flattened rim with that apoearance.

    Exactly what it was. Good to see someone not jumping to the conclusion that it is a mint error.

    Definitely encased. Too bad it was removed. It had a little value encased, worth one cent as is.

    As was stated, no error would cause that effect.

    Encased as in a TPG holder? No. Encased as in a ring? Yes. It's worth no more than a few cents.
