1875-S Trade Dollar. Your thoughts?

I am not sure what to make of this coin.

Obverse looks wiped and scratched and re toned. Reverse, not so much. VF wear.
I would not be happy with that one.
I should clarify. My concerns are more around authenticity.

Not my series and I avoid raw trade dollars.
The obverse has good details and appears genuine to me.
The reverse has pimples and maybe the wrong size mint mark.
The wear on the central devises looks off for the wear on the rim the photo seems to show a ridge from about 12-1:30 that I would think should match the rest of the rim. No nicks anywhere??? The reverse appears not genuine to me.
I know that is not much help and I'm sure I am wrong on one side or the other.
Pretty decent counterfeit, IMO.
I don’t like the raised bumps in the field on reverse and I don’t like the overall look of the “coin” either.
Is that orangeish toning rust around liberty? The coin also looks like it is confused of whether it is circulated or not. The amount of wear doesn’t match up with the condition of the rims and denticles (they’re too sharp). Lots of minor red flags are popping up to me.
It is the Reverse 2 variety, I believe, with the smaller mintmark.

I may have to use this in the future.... a great way to describe what you see on many counterfeits.
The raised metal on the reverse is what makes me scratch my head. Given the uniqueness of the die variety, it is easy to find comparables, and none have similar issues.
Look inside the 2 of "420" for a particularly distinct pick up point on the one I have shared that I cannot see on the other examples.

To answer your question, yes it is some orangish kind of rust or something.

Looks fake to me.
Pass.
I don’t like it. Looks to be possibly fake.

No way pass
100% real but tired, corroded and cleaned. Note it is the rarest 75s die pair (type 2 micro S) but not worth a premium even when in fine shape

Thank you for chiming in. I was hoping this would catch the eye of a few of the big Trade Dollar people here, yourself included. Can you explain what is up with the raised metal on the reverse? For example.
There is stuff like this all over the reverse. I cannot seem to find these defects on other examples that PCGS has imaged of this variety.

It looks cleaned, environmentally damaged and genuine to me.

Without confirmation with a glass at the true 3D nature of the bump in hand. I wouldn’t speculate a guess as it could range from an optical illusion, dig or a casting imperfection. I still think it’s real but I should add to my previous comment that no one can be 100% from pictures.

I have the coin in hand. The bump is raised, as are the others.

Not something I would be interested in.
The bumps may have been caused by heat/fire and may also explain the cleaning & colors on the coin ????
