Believe it or not, I actually enjoy reading books about sports, if the book is good. Yes, I spend a lot of time on the sports forum, but I periodically take breaks to surf Ebay, read, and watch Tom and Jerry.

Good one about the 70s rivalry between the Raiders and Steelers.
Ray Nitschke tells his story in this one.

A great book about the 70s Raiders. I love those 70s Raiders! They don't make em like that anymore! A vicious era in football.
Good one about the 1991 World Series.

In this book, 15 of Ali's opponents tell about what it was like to fight him.
The Glory of Their Times. Early 20th Century baseball as told by the men who played it. Classic.
Deacon Jones was a vicious player and he used a moved called the "headslap", and he would slap the offensive player in the side of the head so he could get around them and get to the quarterback. Great book.
Great book about Ted Williams.
Great book about the Magic vs Bird rivalry.

"Ball Four" by Jim Bouton.
"The Umpire Strikes Back" by Ron Luciano.

Good book about the NFL in the 70s.
Good read about Wilt's 100 point game.

This is an interesting read about the 1990s Cowboys.
Good book about Roberto Clemente as told by the people who knew him the best.
Highly recommended. This is a primary reason why I look at players via their era compared to others in the same.

It's hilarious! Bouton got ripped pretty bad for talking about stuff the ballplayers wanted to be kept quiet, but once the "cat was out of the bag" a lot of them did the same.
"Umpire Strikes Back" also a funny book. Told with a different perspective.
I bought copies off of ebay. Cheap.

I read Ron Luciano's book years ago and do remember it was pretty funny.
Can't remember if this story about Steve Palermo was in that book or where
I initially read it but it always made me laugh.
Former MLB umpire Steve Palermo, 67, was an Oxford native and Norwich grad who was shot outside a Dallas restaurant in 1991. Well-liked and a marvelous story teller, Palermo recounted the time he was working behind the plate and Lou Piniella objected to a called strike. “Where was that pitch at?” yelled Piniella. The good-natured Palermo straightened up and informed Piniella it was incorrect to end a sentence with a preposition. Piniella stared incredulously at the smiling Palermo and finally barked: “Where was that pitch at, a-hole?”
That Bird/Magic book by Jackie MacMullen was a great read. Here are three with Boston/NE ties:

My father just gave me a copy of Parcells: A Football Life but I haven't got around to reading it yet. Bill Parcells co-authored it so you know its gonna have plenty of entertaining quotes in it.

"THE GAME" penned by Ken Dryden retired player of the Montreal Canadiens is a must read for all Habs fans.
This is actually a great book. All-time classic.
This is one of the few non picture books that I owned and read, pretty good read. I used to like the Cowboys back in the early 90’s

Huge Cowboys fan as a kid, Tony Dorsett was my favorite player. I’m talking back in the late 70’s early 80’s. I remember watching the Cowboys/Steelers Super Bowls. I always rooted for the Pats too but really started loving them when Bledsoe and Parcells came to town. I always liked the Cowboys as a secondary team but don’t care one way or another if the win or not.
