Slanted/Beveled Rims - Minting Characteristic or Jewelry Mount?

This coin has rims that appear bevelled or slanted around the coin on both sides. Is this because of a weak strike or other aspect of the minting process, or is it PMD from being used in a bezel/jewelry mount?

I’m posting this in US coins as it is a San Francisco issue and my question is general to all coins with this characteristic.

Only way I can see that happening is a jewelry mount.

Possibly an attempt to minimize small rim nicks.

Looks fully struck otherwise. Maybe an antique washing machine coin? :*

Given that the proof mintage for 1907 was 1, I’m guessing probably not...

Seriously though, I wonder if the rims were filed down at some point for the silver shavings. I've heard things like that used to happen...

There doesn’t seem to be metal movement. It does make me wonder...
