PCGS Grading Times

My coins have been sent in with regular level (the 20 day estimated turn around) and it's now at 19th businesses day and I'm wondering wtf is going on. Anyone have any experience with PCGS with this. Their still on encapsulation and finalization.

You should get the grades soon. Try to be patient.

It's been in finalization for over 5 Business days. And my anxiety (have lots of that) isn't helping.

What’s going on, is that the turnaround time is an estimate, not a guarantee. And what you’re experiencing is not particularly unusual.

I had an 8 coin submission last month that took 21 days from the day they got the package. It took 5 business days for the package to be logged in and I was wondering why so long, but 10 business days later I got the grades by e-mail.

PCGS is the premier grading service and it takes them extra time on tougher submissions to get the grade right.

The only thing that was "harder" about the order was a open 3 quarter eagle and a browning die 2 bust quarter.

Estimates are business days and the days don't start counting until the coins are logged in. I've had coins in encapsulation for over a week before. Worry not.

Coins were logged in 19 business days ago. I was expecting them to be shipped out on the 20th day mark or near it. And their still 2 steps away from that.

Don't put too much stock in the order status. Things can change in a very non-linear fashion. Everything will be fine, no need to stress out. I've had orders take a couple weeks longer than expected, and recently got an Economy submission back a few weeks early.

Some orders go quick and some don’t. I had three submissions received by them on 7/1. Two submissions were already back home to me by this past Saturday. The 3rd submission is still sitting in the “Received” status on the 17th business day. I figure they will get to it eventually.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

I sent 3 coins in at the Regular service Level. The coins got there on 7/9. They put them in their system on 7/13 and the grades posted yesterday. In Quality Check now.

Contradictory to my handle, waiting is the norm for grading coins. You could always cut down on the turnaround time by opening your wallet...wider. You have to ask yourself...what is my time worth?

    There is always walkthru?

Actually, i am not sure why this isnt used as much for raw ( high dollar) stuff at a show. Maybe it is, years ago I was helping a big dealer that had just got in a 1797 half, another dealer was looking at it, and said if it holders, ill take it, so He ran it over to pcgs for the 4 hour show service and low and behold xf45. IMO, paying 200 for 80k coin to make sure it grades like you need it is sensible.

    "estimated (adjective)
(of a value or number) roughly calculated; approximate."

I'm with you being impatient...trust me I'm as bad as the next guy; but you do need to understand the meaning of the word "estimate." Trying to hold them to a rigid timeline is futility...the only thing I've ever found helps is to give up...that usually gets the grades to post in a few hours.

time estimates aside, am I the only one that finds the entire grading flow-chart on my account "Submission" page a bit confusing?? the flow reads: Arrived - Received - Grading - Encapsulation - QA. we know that images are done when coins are raw, why does "Being Imaged" show up at QA, after encapsulation?? :pB)

Could be the imaging step includes correlating the cert number with the images that have been taken of the coin and performing post-processing. This might be necessary if there is a bulk submission where only coins meeting a minimum grade are to be imaged. Crossovers also have a slightly different path in that the coins aren't available raw until after QA approves of the assigned grade (or failure to cross). In reality, the flow is a bit more complex than can be represented by a simple, linear chart. There are well-known decision points, and photography contains some processing that can be parallel to the rest of the flow. I doubt there'd be any value added or confusion mitigated in presenting a more complex, detailed flowchart.

I am going to send in 190 coins this week. I expect to get them back by September or even October for economy.

Could be the imaging step includes........................

I get all that and the reply was mostly tongue-in-cheek. it should logically be Grading - QA - Imaging - Encapsulation.
