1,000 coins is a liability. What you think of as an asset is actually a future liability...think about all the work to dispose of that junk.

Lol. $500 coins are junk? Lol :D

Let's meet in the middle, or left of middle. I'd rather have 175 coins for that amount. Simply put, with 1,000 coins, you've worked yourself into an occupation.

Yeah, lots of room between 5 coins and 1000.

1000 coins is way too many slabs and poundage to keep track of......never mind selling it all someday. How many safe deposit boxes will you need?

Let's see - just 5 coins? I'd consider 5 top pops in Seated quarters, halves, dollars. No blast white dippers here...only nicely toned original coins.

    As a set?

    How Seated 25c Gem UNCs of 1855-0, 1864-s, 1867-s, 1871-cc/1872-cc, 1872-s?

Or a type set of seated quarters:

Superb Gem Uncs of.... No drapery, No motto, Arrows and Rays, '54/55 With Arrows, With Motto....all pre-1870.

    Or a denomination mint set:

Choice to Gem Toned Unc - 1850-0 half dime, 1850-0 dime, 1850-0 quarter, 1850-0 half dollar, 1850-0 dollar.
You could probably make these all finest known and easily slip under the $500K price tag.

I'd take the 5, then over time sell 4 and buy 40, then I'd be happy.

I would rather have 100 top quality foreign coins with an average price of $5000 than either of those choices. That could be an insane collection.

1,000 - Because I would have 995 more chances of a price increase.

I agree with you, but in the negative it's also possible that many could decrease in price as well.
