I did that once and sold my entire US coin holdings fall 2016.
I have more money in coins than ever before as I have been purchasing world coins especially Mexican 8 reales
1823 -1897 .
( the entire series is only 1104 coins )
I’m doing a registry 😄
That will be a mighty impressive set when complete! This is along the lines of what I am thinking. In a way, there's nothing left to accomplish in US coins, unless you have millions of dollars to put in to it. So I'm looking at moving in a different direction.
Yes, I had to sell the majority of my U.S. coins to pay for my grandmothers medicine, Zyprexa, after she hit her cap. I was really annoyed and bummed.
Since her passing in 2012 I have slowly rebuilt the collection to mainly being my favorite types, some are even additions that I always wanted as a kid and never owned.
It's a humble/budget-friendly collection, but I am happy & feel like it's complete.
I’m doing it now! And wow it’s invigorating. The hunt begins again. Except now with more money = nicer coins. I’m even attempting a digital album. Keep learning and keep moving forward.
Only selling that I've done has been for upgrades and some duplicates.
But I do know this:
Once I sell.....That's it. I'm done.
Why?
Because, I really enjoy what I have and it would be too difficult and expensive to replace. To me that would be like demolishing a perfectly good house and then rebuilding it again. Makes no sense. Besides, I plan on going the Eric Newman route.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
I sold everything over a couple of years, until about six months ago, save for the bullion stuff, a few cool, favorite ancients and my glorious Box of 20 (actually: Box of 10+2 so far). I'm feeling much more streamlined; I enjoy frequently revisiting the coins I have, and it's all so much easier on the heirs!
Over the last few years I’ve slowly sold most of my stuff by private sale. I hope to sell the rest soon. It remains to be seen if I ever start over. There are too many concerns about market stability and market politics for me at the moment. I will reevaluate when the dust settles.

Must be one hell of a collection millionS of dollars would be required in order to improve it!
😉
I've sold about 10% of my coins a couple of times over the years, and planning on doing it again pretty soon.
It's a bit of work, but great to exchange dozens of nice coins for a couple of rare ones that I've dreamed of owning since i was 10.
I'm selling off my good stuff in a couple of weeks. All this unemployment doom and gloom has me concerned. May buy back later when economy gets back to pre march.
At one time, I had to beg my wife's niece to take my uncirculated 1896 and 1922-S silver dollars but she refused. In the end, she reluctantly took the 1896 dollar and gave me back my 1922-S. I also passed out 1958, 1961, 1962 proof Franklins to kids and gave away 1943 PDS zinc Lincoln cents in NGC-66, 1979-S PL PCGS-65 silver dollar, and 1963 PCGS PR-66 CAM Franklin. I did all that just to promote coin collecting
Yes in 2005, I sold all of my gold coins ($10 Indian, $20 Liberty, $20 Saint G.) so that I could start from scratch. My only regret is I did not have the courage to take out a loan to buy a $30000 or $60000 $20 Liberty from Saddle Ridge hoard (I am a collector who only buy coins in the $3500 range or less).

The answer is yes but I kept one of the best of the earlier collections.
Still love them all.
My Saint Set
Yes! And it was not my choice on one occasion.

I did the same into ancients - it's dangerous!! (Although perhaps thankfully there is no registry set when you're this deep into the darkside).

Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I’ve thought about selling all and starting over. Why bother though? I’d wind up buying my stuff back.

I've never sold everything but I have " walked away " from coins several times for years at a time,
