Mark, I think what the “disrespect” issue is that some feel that the ANA should be looking out for its members and not potentially putting them in harm’s way by exposing them to COVID-19 in such a setting.
I was planning on it but now no. The idea of traveling, hotels, large gatherings would stress me out. Going to a coin should be enjoyable and for me it wouldnt be at the moment.

Thank you.
If that’s the issue, I think potential attendees should be able to make their own informed decisions.
And my guess is that (as was the case with some recently cancelled shows), the promoters don’t want to cancel prematurely and thereby subject themselves to cancellation fees they might otherwise be able to avoid.

I was looking forward to my first summer ANA but I'm going to err on the side of caution.
Figures, now that I've been given standby privileges on a major carrier.
September PNNA looks to be the next target.

Oh, so it IS about money
Hypothetically, if you had a choice between cancelling prematurely (and thereby forfeiting a great deal of money), or waiting to see if the other party cancelled (in which case you’d lose nothing), what would you do? Keep in mind, if you wait and the other party doesn't cancel, you can still do so, later.
Perhaps it’s more about being smart, than about money.

I'll be there. It broke my heart that we had to cancel our big show in April. I don't see all that much difference in attending a coin show than going grocery shopping, and somehow we all have survived that. But to each their own.

At some point a negotiation takes place between venue at event organizers. For earlier canceled events it was pretty easy to make a case to cancel and get your cancellation fees waived. Not too much venues could do about it. For the society I was involved in, we were able to smoothly cancel our late June Honolulu event (totally sucked to have to do this) and get all cancellation fees waived.
But now that the US is opening up, it is going to be harder. So we either know something by the end of June, which would be about the right time if they decide to negotiate a cancellation with venue and hotels, or we will see a low attended summer ANA show - they may pay fees though by not meeting quotas. So ANA is due to lose money either way - they are stuck, unless there is a resurgence and we are all back in our homes.
Evidence of the upswing - last week our hub airport was at 5% normal capacity and was even offering terminal parking at $5 per day when normally $24/day. This week when we came back through it looked more like 20% of normal, and more shops and restaurants open (still mostly closed), and less jets being temporarily parked out of service on unused taxiways (we counted around 40 737s and bigger going out, some of these were gone coming in). That was just one week, by August, we are talking something better than 50% I am sure. So will be hard to ANA to get out of it and not pay up.
I have an opportunity to open my business back up to the public, in my office, or continue with my current plan. I am not basing my decision on what others think is appropriate (local officials) rather how personally responsible I feel towards my health and the health of others.
That is ultimately my responsibility and not dictated by the decisions of others.
I’m in no hurry to undo my progress.
The people who want to go aren't insisting that those who don't want to go be forced to attend. Everybody knows what's been going on and presumably, as adults, will make the best decision they can based on their own personal situation. The only disrespect I'm seeing is towards those who want to attend by suggesting that there's something wrong with holding the show.

No. I was definitely going along with two buddies from my hometown. Not worth the risk now. Heck, I haven’t seen my grandson in months. Coins will keep.
No. I would not want to contract the virus and bring it back home. If was going to attend, to be on the safe side, I would self quarantine for 2 weeks upon return. Just to play it safe. Would other attendees do the same upon their return from the show?

I have no additional knowledge of other dealers' decisions as to participation, but I suspect many will also opt out. So what's left over makes me think the Summer ANA is going to look more like the March/Winter ANA. That's a "one day around the bourse with time left over to shoot the s&*#" type of show.
So no way I go to that show. And I have been to each of them since 2004 or 2005. And traveled to each of them from Alaska since 2014. And I am not going because the attraction will not be there.

What is the PNNA show like? Is it huge? Never been to Oregon, could be fun
Historically Fall PNNA has been held in Portland Oregon with the Willamette Coin Club hosting.
PNNA is hosting their own Fall show in Seattle this September to bookend the big spring show.
The Fall show in Portland is still scheduled.
If Fall PNNA is as well attended as the Spring show it would be a big one.

Sometimes one's attitude depends on if you know someone who has had COVID-19 or if you yourself have had it. I have a good friend that I can only talk to by phone who was in the hospital for 17 days with it, he is the voice of experience and told me "You DON'T want to get COVID-19". And my nephew's entire family has it - his wife posted on Facebook, and when she told us what she was going thru with her pneumonia, even I had to turn away from the page for a minute. And this is not someone who is a senior citizen over 65 who is more susceptible - she is just 39 years old.

I think that might be the key to going into situations where people cluster, a small device that emits "the sound" and "essence" of flatulence - particularly beef jerky and pickled eggs. Sounds like that could be the next great invention.

I’ll go. I just hope they're smart about it. For example, I’d advocate for a $20 a day admission charge. This is one time when we don’t want big crowds, tire kickers and wanderers.

I haven't decided yet if I will go. I would hate to miss a summer ANA but am leaning towards not going as I would have to fly cross country to get there. If I do go I will definitely be booking last minute. My decision will likely be based on whether a few specific dealers decide to go and the status of club meetings.

Umm, hang out with a bunch of stinky anti-social and potentially contagious people doesn't sound too enticing.
