On a more serious note...I believe that for each forum member who greatly appreciates Rick’s immense knowledge and posts, there are many others who have no idea what they’re missing.
We're all just "chatroom chimps" to his vast numismatic knowledge and experience. I believe that was his exact term for all of us.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but anyone who treats everyone no better than the gum stuck to the bottom of their shoe can stay gone. His ratio of insults to shared knowledge around here was greater than one a the time of his departure.
Let's not forget the literal F-you he gave to the forum while asking to be banned.

I believe that "chatroom chimps" quote was from Ms. Sperber, not the Colonel.

No it wasn't, unless she also referred to us all that way which wouldn't surprise me in the least. I remember the thread specifically as it really rubbed me the wrong way; it's the "meltdown" thread that @jmlanzaf is referring.

I can't tell if this is a declaration of war or a Peace offering...

FWIW I miss him.
As wise and as smart as he is just wish he wasn't so quick to take the bait from those who are content to just grind away and yammer.

Yes, I (among others) was called a chimp by the legendary Jessup. The Chimp Antidefamation League has been upset about it ever since.
[Note: I do think Laura coined the term originally.]

I'm still slightly amazed after he started TWO expletive-laced threads demanding to be banned that he wasn't banned.

May I suggest a modification of your x-axis? Changing it to 'Ability to Understand "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"' would be more on target. And I believe CJ would approve (at one time, he did).

Once he gets in you , he stays. I sent my regards via Mr E, yesterday, by tele. Thank you. And yes he is in my Contacts....but I don’t wanna bother him with such. I can’t pronounce half the places he’s been to , and through. I just know who to call with honest questions about anything numismatic.
He's one I actually do miss around here, even if went into the ether at times. Far better than the recently banned ones, and the some of the ones from further back this year (like Glicker). I thought I met him at a show once, but now I'm really not sure. Does he have long hair and wear glasses?

Don't or won't? 🤔
Fixed it for you. And yes

In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
The Colonel earned his rank. I've always enjoyed the times we chatted via this forum or happened to meet at shows/auctions.

It appears even his absence there is an increased expression of the “Colonel“ in many of you.
The mods refuse to be pushed around.

Touchy subject, jeez.
So should we get him the coin?
It's damaged, so you got it for melt, right?

You can't outwit the Colonel. He's up on that wall for a reason.
